Minecraft would likely go down well, particularly if he has friends who play it. SimCity 4 is also very good although I'd avoid the most recent version - SimCity 2013 - as that is absolutely awful.

I'd also try him with the free demo of Kerbal Space Program. It's a simulator where you build your own rocket, fire it up into space and try to land on another planet.
