Anyone have a Scalextric that works well?

My parents bought DS a Disney Cars Scalextric set last year which has been such a disappointment. It works for about 2 mins on the second Thursday of each month and the rest of the time, I spend fiddling about trying to get it to bloody work while DS looks hopefully at me.

Anyone have one that works without the necessity to turn the air blue when setting it up?

No but would also like one with three cars?

We have My First Scalextric. It is truly awful. My son wasn't at all impressed with it even when it did work. Just said "is that all the cars do, go round in circles"

DS has a London Olympics velodrome Scalextric. It is a pile of over priced crap and I told Hornby so.

They had the nerve to be offended.

Ds has the my first scalextrix. It works but it's sooooo boring and ds is bored if it in les time than it took to set it up!

Scalextric is great but the My First Scalextric set is no good on its own, figure of eight is very dull - go on eBay and get some extra bits of track (or even an old set, MicroScalextric sets are often cheap on eBay) then you make more interesting circuit...and get the kids to make some scenery...we have a blog if anyone is interested...

oh and if it isn't working properly the rails on the track might need a wipe with a dry cloth, and check no fluff on the cars' pick up braids. On MicroScalextric sometimes those braids need gently adjusting, even slightly stretching sideways to make them wider, to help make sure they contact the track rails.

We have the disney cars one (about 4 years ago) and actually its a lot better than one we got more recently... the cars need replacing though Like lenny - check the metal braid thingys, we had to fluff them up a lot.

Your parents should buy it with warranty. Have you make any claim..
