Has anyone here been to Lapland Uk? I'm seriously considering booking tickets as really really wanted to go to Lapland before the kids get too old, but this would be a whole lot cheaper. It's moved to Windsor this year and we have lots of friends we can stay with in that area as we only recently moved from there, which again would make it cheaper.

Any reviews from mumsnetters?

Watching with interest

sassytheFIRST · 06/09/2013 20:06

Only ever heard crap things about it. Was completely slated a year or two ago.

RustyBear · 06/09/2013 20:21

If you're going, expect traffic hell - the site is nearer Bracknell than Windsor and the roads around it are a bottleneck already. Oh, and take your wellies: the site is a bog - literally, it's called Whitmore Bog...

pinkpetrol · 06/09/2013 20:58

It was excellent last year. My children loved it

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/09/2013 21:02

Did they move? I thought that didn't go ahead because the locality didn't want the increase in traffic.

One year we had snow in December (IIRC 2010) they had to cancel and couldn't rebook. (They still had people booked right up to the 24th so no spaces).
But then it took till March for the refunds.

sassy there's also Lapland New Forest which looked spectacularlly bad. I think eventually there was a court case .

Zeeky · 06/09/2013 21:26

Current website says it has moved to Ascot. Until 18mths ago, we lived about 2 miles from the site, so I know exactly how bad the traffic can be! I remember hearing bad things about a uk Lapland, but I thought it was the new forest one & there was another crap one near birmingham I think.

RustyBear · 06/09/2013 23:17

Last year they wanted to put it in Swinley Forest, which is in the green belt there were many local objections on grounds of traffic and disturbance to wildlife and the application was eventually withdrawn. This year they applied again, for a site further down Swinley Road - Whitmore Bog, half way between Bracknell and Ascot. This site is part of the Crown Estate and is a commercial part of the forest. There will still be implications for the wildlife in the area, and traffic problems, but this time the application has been granted - they will be there for 3 years, though they have to remove all the buildings between each Christmas.

helenlouisey · 07/09/2013 14:29

We went to Lapland UK with my DS (was aged 4) and Niece (was aged 3) and they had an amazing day, it was very well organised and the setting was extremely well done, very magical. We're thinking of going again this year as the new site is only 1/2 hour down the road. Thinking now we need to choose a good time to try and avoid the bad traffic in the area, which I assume is much worse first thing in the morning and in the evening?

LIZS · 07/09/2013 14:57

Somewhere in Windsor Great Park this year . I had a priority booking email as must have been signed up several years ago.

kiwidreamer · 07/09/2013 21:25

For those who know the area, is it possible to get to by train? We are in Reading, I'm thinking since the site is actually closer to Bracknell than Windsor that we should drive, traffic problems sound dire.

LIZS · 08/09/2013 08:27

Says its a mile from Ascot station, maybe there will be a shuttle bus service?

Crusoe · 10/09/2013 10:46

Just booked!
It was great last year, I hope it will be just a good this time.
Blooming expensive though ....

oh and yes they are planning a shuttle bus

wow!!! I as going to book as probably last year that dd1 will believe but £75 per person, i'm going to give it a miss. I'm not far from there either.

kiwidreamer · 10/09/2013 18:06

We booked out tickets this morning too, so exciting, flippen expensive on a Saturday but my parents are going back to NZ next August after five years in the UK and it will be a few years before we go back so we are going all out for our last proper Christmas together for a while... I've been ebaying and car booting for months to raise the cash!!!!

Guitargirl · 10/09/2013 19:55

I have booked too - man alive my credit card has taken a battering...hope it's worth it!

BaconAndAvocado · 11/09/2013 22:01

Nutty prices but its something we've wanted to do for a couple of years.

Now that DD is over her Santaphobia we're going to take the plunge.

At those prices, it better be good!

acmum · 15/09/2013 14:11

planning to take my 3 year old, too young?

Inclusionist · 15/09/2013 16:19

I'm interested to k now if 3 is too young too. DS will be 3.4 and I'm wondering whether to wait for next year.

Inclusionist · 15/09/2013 18:06

Thanks kvass, I have just used ELF to book for Christmas Eve. Hope it is good!

Guitargirl · 21/11/2013 12:00
