How do your Christmas Eve Hampers arrive?

BankerMommy2010 · 03/09/2013 09:34

Im doing a CEH this year, I was just wondering how & when yours arrive?

I was going to put it ds bedroom whilst he was in the bath, but I quite like the idea of bubble bath in the hamper.... so maybe have it waiting in his room when we go up for a bath??? Im thinking of putting a twinkly set of battery operated lights in the basket so when he walks into his dark bedroom, the hamper will be in there twinkling!

I just pull out the box from behind a chair after we have lit the Christmas candle. But then, DD knows that the hamper is from me (well, actually US, as she helped find PJs and slipper socks last year - DH was lucky he didn't get a Primark Christmas onesie!!)

jamtoast12 · 03/09/2013 12:48

We have a family hamper so its delivered to the living room. Basically on our way out in the afternoon (friend has Xmas eve party), one of us "forgets something!" and goes back in to set it up whilst the other turns the car round. That way its there for when we get home. Last year, dh didn't come to the party as busy at home and dds were terrified the elves wouldn't bring hamper as dh home!!! I had to lie and say he' d nipped out! I rang him on the way home to tell him to set up and get out the house for 5 mins so we got home first!

jamtoast12 · 03/09/2013 12:49

Actually this year if we don't go to the Xmas eve party, we'll do a similar thing when going for a walk.

OvO · 03/09/2013 16:14

Ours is left outside in the back garden. Especially good if it snows. I buy the wire edged ribbon so that I can wrap it in a big proper bow.

I think others do similar and say it's from Santa's elves. Mine is from my DS2 (he was stillborn) and my boys are still young enough to believe this. They think Santa loans DS2 some magic so he can fly down here and deliver them a big box of goodies. Grin

The twinkly lights around the box in a dark room sounds lovely though.

ChestyNut · 03/09/2013 17:18

That's lovely oVo Smile

nickelbabe · 03/09/2013 17:22

Hmm, I hadn't thought of doing that, I was just going to bring it out as mummy to the family (or daddy do it, whoever gets there first...)

nickelbabe · 03/09/2013 17:23

but i like your idea of twinkling lights - that's lovely :)

TrollyDolly1 · 03/09/2013 17:38

Ours (well Ds's) is left by his Elf on a shelf as his parting gift.

BankerMommy2010 · 03/09/2013 18:20

Yes, im planning for it to be left by buddy (our elf) as my little boy will wonder where hes gone. Im going to put a little note in from the elf saying good bye etc x

Our next door neighbour is given the hamper secretly during the day, then leaves it on doorstep, rings the bell and scarpers!

dementedma · 03/09/2013 22:53

I have only ever come across the idea of a ceh here on mumsnet. Not a single person I know in RL actually does this.

Ours is delivered by elves to the living room while we are out on Christmas Eve - we have a family one too Smile

Like the idea of twinkly fairy lights though!

OvO I appear to have something in my eye...

attheendoftheday · 03/09/2013 23:17

I'm doing a ceh for the first time this year, but I'm planning on having it magically appear when we come back from a walk (we'd be walking the dog, not some magical christmas walk). In reality I'll pop it out while the dd's are heading out. I wasn't going to explain where it comes from, but see what the dds come up with.

BankerMommy2010 · 04/09/2013 06:43

Ypu dont seem to like the idea of ceh dementedma...... live & let live I say, its a nice idea, im going to do it it as I like the idea, I always buy my son some treats abd pjs for xmas eve, the hamper just makes it a little more exciting.

Unknowingly, I've been doing this for years, but only because I am from the continent and santa arrives on Christmas eve. My Santa that is, the English santa arrives still on christmas morning.
It's pyjamas for DD, whisky for DH and new pyjamas for me too.
There's always a knock on the door on DD is in the loo :)

buzzgirly · 04/09/2013 07:24

oVo that is such a lovely way to include your ds2.

Last year the boxes, disney ones from Poundland, were waiting in living room when we got from my mum's on Christmas Eve. I really like the idea of lights being round them - I have some battery tea lights which we could use.

nurseneedshelp · 04/09/2013 07:27

Intrigued! What is a ceh???

attheendoftheday · 04/09/2013 08:39

nurse it's a Christmas Eve Hamper!

OhSoConfused · 04/09/2013 08:55

oVo, that is just lovely xx

I am doing a CEH this year and very excited (my twins are 2). I was planning on having family around Christmas eve evening though so not sure how to do it yet!

HavingAnOffDAy · 04/09/2013 10:41

oVo that's beautiful, what a lovely way to include DS2 in your Christmas

Our elf on the shelf delivers ours as his leaving gift. It's usually PJ's and a book but this year I'm planning to include some fizz for me & DH

waltermittymissus · 04/09/2013 10:50

Ours gets delivered while mummy has the children in the kitchen baking Santa's cookies.

Daddy sneaks it outside the front door, rings the bell and pegs it around the back of the house because he's been "checking something in the shed" Grin

Ds(6) will cop on soon though so think I'll get my sister to do it for me this year.

We also go on a forest walk to find the Christmas eve log Blush

Dh runs ahead and sprinkles a log in snow and glitter then the children find it and we light it when we get back to watch our movie that Blinky (the elf) has left in the hamper.

It means that Santa comes to our house first so they have to go to sleep Wink

nurseneedshelp · 04/09/2013 11:16

I've honestly never heard of them?

Can someone briefly explain?

BankerMommy2010 · 04/09/2013 12:16

Well the Christmas eve hamper in our house is pretty much stuff ive always bought for him to get us through Christmas eve :)

I buy him some xmas pjs, slipper socks, chocolate a Christmas dvd to watch before bed and a nice festive book to read at bedtime, I might also pop a nice bubble bath in too.

The hamper comes from our elf on the shelf as a partying gift...just a bit of fun really although not everyones cup of tea.
