My ds is 3 (4 in feb) all he ever asks for is cars, trains or planes.... our house is full to bursting with this stuff so id like to buy him some different bits, he has a great little imagination so im thinking playsets like happyland or little people BUT im worried he is too old for these kinds of things, he seems to get frustrated with the small fiddly bits on playmobil... duplo? Do 3 year olds like that?

My DS was train mad at this age, how about sone new bits for his track? I'd not bother with playmobil yet, he seems a bit young. Duplo is good, mine still get it out sometimes and they are 9 and 6 Smile. Would he like some merchandise from the new Planes film?

Happyland is good to but if your house is full, have you really got room for another set of things?

Ds2 will be three at Christmas, he is getting

Bigjigs road stuff to go along with his train track
A scooter to get to nursery on
Lego duplo mixed box
Lego duplo fire set
Play doh

Ds1 played with train stuff until he was7ish and will Still steal the toddlers duplo so i hope the toddler will use this stuff for years

New Planes stuff that has just come out with the latest movie

DS will also be 3 at Christmas, he's getting:

V-tech Robot (fingers crossed!)
Some more train track, trains and little houses/trees for dotting around it
Duplo train and duplo cake set
a mountain of books (thanks to the bargains thread)
Play Doh and some molding toys
Some little Thomas bits I found in the Asda sale.

Big set of Crayola stickers and paints.

The crayloa set is still available in Hawkins Bizaare for £5 reduced from £15.

Thanks for replies.

He starts nursery on Monday, so I plan to have a big toy sortt out while hes away, I might donate to nursery so he can still play with them.

Im happy for him to have happyland, but worried hes too old for me to be buying him that type of thing? ???

Ive started buying a few bits from the planes film and bits from cars, the drifters stuff. He loves his thomas trains so I may get a few bits to go with his take & play, it all seems very repetitive though :/

DS will be 3 in January, these are my ideas so far.

Toy chainsaw (yes really)
More bits for his trainset
Easel to share with his sister
Some more duplo
Consumables such as paint, stickers and play doh

DS1 is 3 next week. He's getting an outdoor slide for birthday, a scooter for christmas. Other smaller things on the list are toolkit, tape measure, torch, bigger jigsaws, hats (!), anything constructiony really.

DTisMYdoctor · 03/09/2013 12:43

I don't think he's necessarily too old for happyland if he's not ready for regular playmobil, but you can also get playmobil 123 which doesn't have as many fiddly bits.

Duplo was popular too - a good introduction to lego.

Does he watch or have Octonauts books? The toys have good play value. DS loves his stuff.

Dressing up stuff?

Don't think he's too old for happy land and you can get some bargains on ebay. I wouldn't worry about things being repetitive at this age, if he plays with trains and planes I'd just get those, at least you know you are onto a winner Smile

Does he have a bike and a scooter?

My DS has a birthday in the spring, we try to do indoor type stuff for Christmas and outdoor toys for his birthday.
