Anyone making their own Christmas Cards?

OK so last year I had some christmas cards printed with photos of DS wrapped in fairy lights (I think there's photos on my profile). This was very much a showing off PFB and cost me a blooming fortune! So I thought I would make my own this year.

My plan is to write Merry Christmas in swirly black writting so it looks like a wire and then rope in DS to dot some colourful finger prints coming off to act as bulbs. (Yes I am addicted to pinterest, yes I do have a problem, please don't judge me).

I've not really done card making before. I saw in The Works you can buy packs of 50 blank cards for about £6 which seems pretty reasonble. I was also thinking of getting a stamp made with "and a happy new year" to stamp inside.

Anyone else making their own?

Nice! I have done in the past. Potato print in red, green and silver paint of stars and Christmas trees. Do post link to photo of your idea though - sounds great!

Last year we did reindeer made from dd1's hand and footprints, with eyes and a pompom nose stuck on. This year I was thinking of potato print christmas trees with the dds fingerpainting the baubles on. I love your idea, though.

What I struggle with more is thank you cards that at least dd1 (who's 2) can have some involvement in. If anyone has any ideas?

I meant to add, we never bother with blank card packs as the cards are too small, we just get a pack of coloured card from baker ross and I have a giant pile of A5 envelopes.

I think last year for thank you cards I ordered postcards from photobox or maybe snapfish (whoever had the best price) with a photo of DS in his santa suit, sitting beside the christmas tree opening his presents on Christmas day.

Will have a think about more crafty thank you cards. Just had a quick google search and quite like this. If you cover the thank you younger DC's can just go daft with the stamps and they don't look too time consuming or messy.

Meant to say obviously you could use Christmas stamps or a star or smiley face rathre than a pumpkin.

Thanks chirpchirp that's a good idea.

ooh yes I usually do, last year with PFB did some photo cards with them dressed as santa. I was going to make some again this year, but got my supplies out of the loft and found over 30 cards in plastic ( I also sell them) ready to go which I made when I was pregnant so using those instead.

I also love pintrest and the lightbulb finger prints are lovely, so might do those next year. Also the LO handprint upside down to make a tree is lovely.

I always used to make them myself, but ever since we started having Christmas at our house it just got to be to much for me. For the last few years I've been making our cards with www.shutterfly.com/cards-stationery/christmas-cards. This way they're still personal, but it saves me a lot of time and it doesn't cost a fortune.

We did the finger print cards last year. Easy but effective.
our cards

We have made our own every year since the girls were born (eldest is 5) and I feel very bad about not doing the same year but we are moving in 3 weeks time (relocating) so really don't have he time/patience/ enthusiasm! Maybe we can make up for it with Thank you cards :)

fuzzpig · 15/11/2013 17:08

We don't send cards really, but I usually get DD to do a few for family. I'm thinking of getting a more specific idea this year though rather than just letting them loose with glitter!

Love the idea of doing crafty thank you cards, that really appeals to me!

Sort of, the kids drew their cards and they're being printed by cauliflower cards

GlitteredPinecones · 15/11/2013 18:43

I got the idea for mine from Pinterest- here and here :)

MrsPear · 15/11/2013 18:50

We are doing plain white cards stamped with a big tree and sentiment then Ds 1 is going to add glitter and jewels. Nice and cheap!

Minnieisthedevilmouse · 15/11/2013 18:54

Yup. A pic of dds in Xmas outfits by our tree and I'm fed up with oldies moaning they don't get a pic inside card.

Red hobby craft things. Dds will stick and draw on them too.

Oh and glitter inside :)
