Art presents for a 9 year old?

My 9yo DD is very interested in art, specifically drawing and painting. I'm thinking of doing her a art hamper for Christmas, and maybe buy an easel for her to use. At the minute she uses books to rest on, as she gets wound up with the print from the table coming through. I'm not arty at all though so has anyone got any recommendations? What brands should I go for, what type of paper, is it worth getting canvases, which sketching pencils, that sort of thing. I'm thinking an easel with a storage drawer will probably be the best, can you get floor coverings for them too?

Thanks!

If she's very arty, she may already have some of the key ingredients (eg watercolour pencils).

Anything that gets used up would be great, eg canvases. She might like some instructional books.

I would recommend going to Hobbycraft and stocking up according to your budget.

Instructional books are are great idea, any recommendations? She enjoys drawing people/animals, more than cartoons, etc.

I also have an art mad dd aged 9...am stocking up in the summer sales/offers...WHS have half price watercolour pencils in lovely tins, other types of paints all with £££s off. The Works has cheap as chips artists' materials and so do big Tescos!

A big hit with dd last Christmas was the Art Academy game for the Nintendo ds and I am getting her a Bamboo touch pen drawing thingummy which she hung her nose over last year but already had far too many Christmas presents!
