Help - last minute present for 12 yo DSD

The teach yourself piano book and CD that i ordered for 12 yo step daughter hasn't turned up. Panic setting in now - the postman has just been.

I need a present in the next 4 hrs from shops in my small town. I have tried any possible shops that might sell a similar book but no luck, so starting from scratch.

there is an Argos, a next, a tesco, an independent bookshop, various other high street stores. Was trying to get her something a bit more personal than a voucher or smellies.

She's a very keen singer and wants to learn a bit about piano to help her singing.

Also very outdoorsy and sporty.

Any great ideas?

x

Bit of an odd suggestion, but how far are you from a national trust / English heritage property? They have shops and you may be able to get books / waterproofs / something from there without the hideousness which would be your town centre today. Also, any garden centres nearby, same things apply.

I just wouldn't brave the town centre today. If you're feeling really brave, go to the independent bookshop, tell them what you've told us and see what they recommend. It's not much point recommending Bill Bryson etc as what you can get will depend on what they have in stock.

I've bought one of my DSDs a sleeping bag this year - useful if she's getting to the age of sleepovers and also good for camping. Argos do them.

Or CDs? Or just get her some chocolates to open on the day, and explain that her main present is to follow?

Not sure what your town centre's like today, but where I am it's dead. Half the shops shut (but not the big ones) and few people around.

OK panic over. Have got her this.

Still only a voucher to open on Christmas day, but she'll love it!

Right. Now I can focus on peeling sprouts! Merry Christmas everyone. xx
