Anyone buy turkey at the last minute?

Last year I bought a really nice reduced turkey on Christmas eve in M&S for only £15. There were plenty of reduced turkeys as they have over estimated how many they needed.
I was planning to do the same this year as I can't justify spending £40+ on a piece of meat. Hoiwever when I went to M&S this morning they said they are having far fewer turkeys this year as so many had to be sold off cheap last year.

Still might be brave and see what I can get! Does anyone else do this or am I the only cheap skate?!

I'm sure you could get a turkey somewhere but it might involve trekking round. I just got one from M and S this morning and there were lots on the shelves although most of them were for 10+ people.

I do this every year, go to Sainsbury's on Christmas Eve and get everything I need including a half price turkey crown. It has never let me down so far, I've always managed to get everything I need last minute but you have to be brave! I've always done it on the understanding that if they've run out I'll quite happily eat chicken or beef or something instead so it doesn't matter.

I am lucky in that I can walk to M&S, Waitrose and Sainsburys within 10 mins of my home. Also Waitorse are selling two chickens for £9 which I can freeze if get a turkey.

Last year my Sainsburys didn't redice the turkes on Christmas eve, it was a silly move as the had loads to shift after Christmas and sold some of them at a 90% discount!

I went in my M&S last year on Xmas Eve about 4 o clock as I was passing, but there was very little reduced and turkeys weren't reduced by much at all.

Yes, I've done this the past few years, because it's only ever me and the DCs and they don't even like turkey! I think if I had guests coming I'd have to have a back up plan in the freezer.

This year we're having steak, so if I get a turkey cheap I'll have it on Boxing Day. In fact I may as well buy it on Boxing Day...
