Had ordered Sam Stern student cookbook to be delivered to WHSmiths store, but over a week now and still not even dispatched and I need to post the package soon otherwise no chance of getting there for Christmas.

Can go into town tomorrow, I could get that book for more money in store in WHSmiths, but wondering if anyone has any other inspiration for a tenner or less. She's not particularly into labels and wouldn't start to think about clothes anyway, probably wouldn't find the right shade of black. Seems to be mainly into parties, with a bit of studying thrown into the mix. Did jewellery last few years, and don't know if got her style, the dc chose anyway. Don't want to do vouchers as found good present for her sis, so would be a bit wierd to give vouchers to one but not other. They are quite different so can't just duplicate. Any ideas?

How about a snood or scarf, or slipper boots? These might be slightly over your budget, but you should be able to get them for under £15.

For under a tenner, some make-up or is there a chance you can pick the cookbook (or a similar one) up in town?

Thanks, I don't know her shoe size, and might be a bit bulky. Not sure whether she wears scarves, but could look for some make up. Not sure which brands are popular. I've got a gadget case for her dsis, so could look for something similar but in a different style. Was weighing their package and thinking something lighter might be better than a book for postage. Save that idea for next year when I can get organised earlier!

Or you could get the book from Amazon posted directly to her?

Hi,
I've got a little gift for my friend's daughter who is 18. I opted for a chick-flick type film from asda and a slab of choc to go with it. postable in a jiffy bag quite easily? - lots of dvds under a tenner in asda/hmv etc. I just went for one that wasn't too current and in charts. Or, how about some rimmel nail varnish? they've got some lovely purple, berry/plum, silver type colours. You could get a couple and their combined base/top coat. Lighter for posting?

Oh good ideas sauvb I ended up getting some (hopefully) funky stationery, useful for a student. The book was on 1-3 week dispatch from Amazon so too risky. Will collect the other book when it comes and lose store it carefully for next year.

What about nail stuff? There are all sorts of special effects varnishes around at the moment - crackle finish, stamping etc

I've bought a nail stamping kit by Konad for a 16yo

Think you can get 3 eckies for a tenner these days.
