Is Scalextric any good for a 6yo?

Not for Christmas (Santa's shopping trolley is full!) but DS1's 6th birthday is in Feb and seeing as it's nice and busy in this topic thought I'd ask!

I have seen My First Scalextric and Micro Scalextric at Argos with mixed reviews, is it a load of tat that will fall apart or is the quality OK? Also is it suitable for a 6yo and his little brother who will be nearly 4?

My boy had to be watched all the time with Scalextric at those ages (6 and 4) as the cars are quite delicate. In fact, even at 9 I'm not sure it would suit him - he's quite rough with toys.

I haven't seen the "My First" range - it would have to be rock solid in my opinion!

mine had it at that age. The only issue we had was the controllers , when pressed made the cars run to fast and zip off the tracks, so dh fashioned it with tape so they could only press it in so far iyswim. Years of fun, we have had. Lots of different ones too. Just a pain that they take up so much floor space so alot of setting up and putting away. That is with the bigger ones. Not sure about micro size?
