Help! My tree is shedding needles!

Been up a week. Watered lots. Radiator behind it is off. Did everything you are suposed to do. Every time I force my way under it to water it I get covered and so does the floor. Its shedding if you just touch it lightly.

It will be bald by Xmas won't it?

Don't touch it, don't even breathe near it!! I'm sure it will hold on for Christmas (just). I was told to put a soluble asprin in the water. No idea if it helps or not but figured it was worth a shot.

PolkadotCircus · 17/12/2012 18:48

If it isn't a Fraser or Nordman yes.

Put a barricade round it and as Aloha said don't breath too heavily near it.

MerryLindor · 17/12/2012 18:50

I've been told that watering with lemonade helps.

sparklingwine · 17/12/2012 18:53

My mum swears by glcerine. Apparently you add it to the water and helps stop the needles dropping. Think she read it in good housekeeping or somesuch.
Some varieties of trees are worse than others (I know that's not helpful)

CiderwithBuda · 17/12/2012 18:56

It is a Nordman.

It's a gorgeous tree. Lovely shape. Spent ages decorating it. And it was bloody expensive.

Sigh.

I have to touch it to water it and when drawing the curtains.

Double sigh.

Will try the glycerine. Thanks.

Can't believe how smug I just sounded.Xmas Blush

thegreylady · 17/12/2012 20:46

wow charley that is expensive but I suppose it will last forever :)
Once we stopped having real trees when dc were grown up we bought a white artificial one-it is 7ft tall and looks magical-everyone admires it :)

judefawley · 17/12/2012 20:47

Our 'non-drop' tree is dropping, despite watering it every day.

And my thwacking great swag over the inglenook looks like it should be in Miss Havisham's parlour.

NotGoodNotBad · 17/12/2012 21:03

Agree on the Fraser Firs. We went for something else one year for a change, didn't like it as much so back to Fraser again the next year.

Well I think I am just going to pray ours lasts. Can't face doing it again.

Will be keeping an eye on that site to see if they reduce prices further after Xmas though charleybarley. It looks lovely and the reviews are good.
