MIL has had a bit of a windfall and wants to get us all a lovely gift each this year. She has just rung me at work and asked me to think of something, value of about £250 just for me !!

I have no clue !
I have never even thought of spending that much on myself to be honest !

I already have a phone and a Google Nexus.
I am too fat for clothes as I am planning on losing weight in the new year for our first holiday abroad.
I have absolutely no idea !

What would you get ????

Handbag? You could get a lovely, lovely bag for that budget.

Fab winter boots?

Shinyshoes1 · 17/12/2012 14:30

Can you put it aside until you know what you want ?

A spa weekend perhaps?

SouthernComforts · 17/12/2012 14:31

Ooh, GHD's, a new coat and a really good face primer.

Or a posh coffee machine.

Or a night in a nice hotel and a meal?

Tickets to a show?

I enjoy cooking so I'd choose something for my kitchen- I am lusting after a k-mix stand mixer so that would be what I'd choose!
Have you any hobbies? Anything you'd like for your home or garden? Or does it have to be just for you?

SouthernComforts · 17/12/2012 14:32

Or if your planning on losing weight at a gym then membership that lets you use the spa/sauna too so you can treat yourself afterwards?

threesypeesy · 17/12/2012 14:35

I would put it towards a nice new pair of shoes Xmas Smile

crikeybill · 17/12/2012 14:36

oooh lots of good ideas thank you.
Apparently it has to be just for me as she has already bought our usual gifts for the home Blush. This is something different and special apparently. She is spending the same on DH and BIL and SIL. I dread to think how much she is spending on the kids !! I feel terribly , terribly spoilt Xmas Smile

Similarish scenario here and I got a pair of diamond stud earrings that I wear constantly. If it happened again I'd go for a plainish diamond drop on a necklace now. Something classic that will keep forever...

DoubleMum · 17/12/2012 16:25

I think I'd put it towards an iPad if that was allowed, or a KitchenAid if I didn't have one. Otherwise I don't know, I don't care about clothes, or shoes, or handbags or jewellery so I guess I'm one of those difficult people to buy for. Theatre tickets would be nice but you wouldn't want to go on your own, ditto a weekend break. Is that kind of thing acceptable?

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 17/12/2012 16:36

Diamond studs
Kitchen Aid or similar (perhaps not if you want to lose weight)
One of those Phillips laser hair removal zappers
I'd also think about upgrading some of my old crappy kitchen stuff (eg sharp knives, pans etc) to really good ones.
A new bike - would be good for helping lose weight
Something for the garden, a water feature or similar

BeaLola · 17/12/2012 17:52

Jewellery - diamond studs or pendant, dressy watch, something I could wear loads & keep forever.. what a lovely MIL.

Personally Id get an ipad. Or a new camera.
Lucky you, enjoy!

deleted203 · 17/12/2012 20:06

I would have a weekend away with my DH. In a hotel. Bliss.

OoohTrifle · 17/12/2012 20:16

A little blue Tiffany box can contain something lovely for £250. Enjoy!

mumof2girls99 · 17/12/2012 20:18

id save it for my holiday as a treat :)

PepeLePew · 17/12/2012 20:24

How lovely!

Three options.

  1. I'd buy several different things that I have had my eye on for a while, none of which are by themselves particularly amazing but which would, taken together, enhance my quality of life no end. A fountain pen, a merino wool base layer, some really high quality chocolate, some new perfume and a pair of earrings.

  2. I would go to Hatchards on Piccadilly, and I wouldn't leave until I'd spent £230 on books. All sorts: fiction, art, travel, reference. I would then take the remaining £20 and go and have a lovely lunch on my own in Soho somewhere while reading my books.

  3. Right now, I have a ridiculous fantasy that involves checking into a really really nice hotel for the night and ordering room service. On my own. I'd buy a really absorbing, trashy paperback, have champagne and a club sandwich, and lounge around in my pjs and a fluffy bathrobe watching movies. £250 possibly not quite enough for Claridges, which is where I'd really like to stay, but certainly somewhere fairly lovely.

Have fun with it, whatever you decide.

PrettyPirate · 17/12/2012 20:24

I'd love to get SLR camera, 250 would pay for most of it. Or photography course. Or dressmaking course, sewing is my other hobby and would like to learn pattern making.
