Serious help needed for present ideas for my mum!

Right....it's getting dangerously close and no ideas!! My mum is in her 60s and still works but her house is quite small and she dislikes clutter etc. Her garden is also quite small but she loves it.

She hates smellies etc so that kind of thing is out.
She hates people to waste money on presents for the sake of them so need to think of something she would actually like.

Normally I dont have too much trouble but this year I am struggling!

Any ideas?

How about a posh gardening set? Nice gloves, a mat for her to kneel on, some tools etc? I got something similar for my man a few years ago and she loved it.

Gardening book
Bottle of her favourite drink
Magazine subscription

karensb · 16/12/2012 20:26

Thanks for the list of ideas.

She can't have flowers too often as make her sneeze.
Would love to get theatre tickets but bit beyond my budget!

She always seems difficult when you start to think but really she likes lots of stuff, just nothing you can get presents for.

I've got liquorice allsorts in a Christmas tin for mine as she likes those - any edibles she likes?
Plus, my Mum mentioned she liked the comic Girl from years ago so I've ordered an annual off ebay - hope it arrives in time, eek.
I do find her hard to buy for normally which is why the Girl annual is so late.

karensb · 16/12/2012 20:26

Like the magazine subscription idea.

Any recommendations?

wednesdaygirl · 16/12/2012 20:28

Got my mum a hamper i made myself

wednesdaygirl · 16/12/2012 20:29

Prima is a good mag

lilolilmanchester · 16/12/2012 20:29

did you see cravingcake's magazine subscription suggestion? THere are loads to choose from.

What about something like a container gardening book, with a container and some bulbs?

You said "She always seems difficult when you start to think but really she likes lots of stuff, just nothing you can get presents for".... what does she like? Might help spark some ideas

karensb · 16/12/2012 20:30

The almost of border she has is very small so can't get bulbs.

Have got her plants a lot recently.

I just really want to get her something a bit special as have recently had dc2 and she has been an amazing help.

Do the bbc fo a gardening magazine? perhaps buy her a copy, and couple of packets of seeds and put the subscription inside magazine

Stinkystockingedfeet · 16/12/2012 20:31

Gardening vouchers. MIL loves them as she spends a small fortune in the spring sorting the garden out.

JKSLtd · 16/12/2012 20:32

Bit predictable but photos of the kids? still time for some canvas/calendars with photos of them?

SantasNaughtySack · 16/12/2012 20:32

How about the beginnings of a herb garden?

Ponders · 16/12/2012 20:32

a nice acer in a large pot so she won't have to pot it on for ages
acers are beautiful

JKSLtd · 16/12/2012 20:33

Special diabetic food? harder to find but if she has any favourites, would be worth it.

lilolilmanchester · 16/12/2012 20:44

jewellery then?
