In particular those who live away. Doubt that we will be able to get there to visit.

99 year old great-granny is getting two pashmina type scarfs as they are big enough to spread over her shoulders, and a little ornament for her garden area in the care home.

85 year old grandad (other side of the family) got a food hamper with mini cheeses, chutneys, humbugs, biscuits and crackers.

Dad is getting an Andre Rieu dvd, new slippers (ultra wide/deep for his yuck feet) and a box of brandy cherries in choc (annual treat). Mum is getting a slanket, new dressing gown (has forgotten how to take current one off), and a photobook of her family that I'm making

My dad is getting exciting thermal socks for his freezing feet, and a book for writing his thoughts in for his future first grandchild. My mum is getting A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and fancy soap. They're both getting a breakfast cup and saucer in a china pattern they like. V. quiet Christmas planned this year. We're going to theirs, this has all been delivered to their house though, we just have to open the packets and put them in Christmas wrap.

My mother's house was broken into whilst she was in hospital last year and all of her jewellery was taken so I've bought her a new bracelet. She also has a school photograph of ds.

Shesparkles · 14/12/2012 20:47

We only have my dad, he's getting swimming trunks (yes I know!), some pro photos of the kids and I keep his freezer stocked with home baking throughout the year .
Had my mum still been here, I'd probably have got her something to wear

CanYouHearMe · 14/12/2012 22:26

Some great ideas here, Boobsalot, where did you get your hamper, or did you make it up yourself?

Got my grandad (79) a calendar for his hospital/Dr/dentist appointments Grin
It's what he's asked for as he can never remember what's coming up. Also some proper thermal socks, one of those heated blanket things and a DVD boxset of some war stuff DP thought he would like. Exciting!

Benaberry · 14/12/2012 23:26

My mum & dad are getting a photobook from Snapfish with assorted photos of the DS's in (being delivered direct as we won't see them, mum is going to wrap for me around the outer packaging)

MIL is getting a silver photo box from john lewis with a photo frame in the lid containing a random assortment of photos of the DS's. She's also got a framed photo from the boys. We'll be seeing her over New year though, so not such an issue with fragility of presents!

Trumpton · 15/12/2012 05:59

We have bought MIL a cashmere cardi from Pure . Total luxury and lovely and light and warm .

ajandjjmum · 15/12/2012 06:18

Gifts for our random 'oldies' -
Soft cardigan from M & S (so they can exchange without embarrassment if I got it wrong!), Alfie Boe CD, Floris Bubble Bath, Marc Jacobs 'Dot' perfume set (for a 'Dot' we have!), Beer hamper (bottles of different sorts of beer - including some with Christmas-y name), bungee bird feeder, Garden tree ornament (thing that twirls and throws reflections), books.
