I need to give a present to two Aunties and thought a home made food gift might be a good idea.

Not sure what to make though! Has anyone done this, what did you make, how expensive was it / how long did it take?

I was thinking about making some chocolate florentines and wrapping them nicely in tissue paper / box. What do you think?

I think they sound good.

This year I'm doing rocky road, fudge and Turkish delight. Have some clear bags from Lakeland and some ribbon I picked up that says 'handmade with love'

This year, I'm making -

snowman soup
peppermint candy cane bark
tiger butter

for kids

gingerbread
winter spiced fruit and nut bark
lavender shortbread

for adults

Sadly, things are much curtailed this year because I am just not well enough to do any more.

Have christmasy cellophane bags and cake wraps. green red and silver ribbon and some labels printed from the www.

Saw Nigel slater interview where he was making cheese shortbread with seeds.

I always want to make truffles but they don't keep long enough to get round to the rellies.

StressedHEmum - sorry you're not well , you still sound like you're doing loads to me! How do you make the fruit and nut bark?

LimeLeafLizard · 13/12/2012 18:45

Hey, thanks for the good ideas!

I am really impressed - You all sound more experienced than me... I am quite good at the basics but struggle with more complicated things that require special techniques.

I think I could manage fudge though - that is a good idea as it always goes down well. I also like the idea of lavender shortbread - how do you get the lavender element in? Essence or actual lavender?!

tasmanian I like truffles and I know I can make them well, but like you I've had problems with them not keeping long enough.

Must look out for cellophane bags and ribbon - that is a much better packaging idea.

You can buy lavender sugar in waitrose - roll the sides of the cookies in it while they're hot

Thanks, will look out for it.
