Which cheese to eat with Christmas fruit cake

Does anyone know of a cheese that would taste nice eaten with Christmas fruit cake? It is a fruit cake without icing, I just feel it would taste nicer eaten with a bit of cheese.

Wensleydale is nice with tea bread. That might work

stretch · 13/12/2012 11:27

Red leicester.

(hungry now) Grin

Stilton. Oh yeah.

Xmas Shock

We eat it with cheese every year. Just after Xmas, I take the icing off, cake is a bit drier and crumblier, delicious with the slightly nutty taste of Red Leicester. DH used to look like this at the combination...Hmm when I first met him, now he's a convert!

FushiaFernica · 13/12/2012 11:42

Thanks thought I was being weird, some great suggestions, think Stilton may be a bit hardcore for me, but def going to try Wensleydale and Red Leicester, fab! Xmas Smile

White Stilton or Wensleydale or a mild (not "tasty") Lancashire.

LoonvanBoon · 13/12/2012 12:38

I love rich fruit cake with manchego.

lilolilmanchester · 13/12/2012 18:31

another vote for Red Leicester

shrimponastick · 13/12/2012 18:58

Wensleydale or a strong cheddar work well IMO.

Haven't cut into our cake yet - we hav to wait until we have the tree up.

spookysal · 13/12/2012 19:02

Do you eat the cake and then eat the cheese?

Sounds a delicious combination!

TheSkiingGardener · 13/12/2012 19:02

Wensleydale! Both in the same bite!

Leeds2 · 13/12/2012 19:12

Wensleydale for me too!

Allalonenow · 13/12/2012 19:22

Manchego or Lancashire or Feta would all work, but Blue Stilton would be my favourite.

purpleloosestrife · 13/12/2012 20:22

Cheshire cheese is nice with cake, too. My DH is a convert to cheese and cake now too!

Tiggles · 13/12/2012 21:21

I eat it it with a mature cheddar.

DewDr0p · 13/12/2012 21:22

Lancashire is the traditional choice imho but Cheshire might also work. Yum.

Bluestocking · 13/12/2012 21:25

Wensleydale. So delicious! But a mature cheddar is nice with fruit cake too.

IsaXMASbelleRinging · 13/12/2012 21:25

It has to be Wenslydale!!!!!!!!! Anything other than a crumbly mild white cheese is just wrong.

spookysal · 13/12/2012 21:41

I really didn't need to bother with the biscuits for cheese this year did I Grin

ceeveebee · 13/12/2012 21:47

Only Lancashire should be eaten with Christmas cake Xmas Grin

Allalonenow · 13/12/2012 22:49

Up to now Wensleydale is the clear favourite, with twice as many votes as Stilton, Cheddar or Lancashire.

I'm a Stilton or Lancashire girl, maybe we need a poll??

SantaWearsGreen · 14/12/2012 15:16

Cranberry wensleydale..mmm. Or white stilton.

Ihatemytoes · 14/12/2012 16:33

Manchego!

thegreylady · 14/12/2012 21:18

Wensleydale,Lancashire or Caerphilly equally gorgeous-not blue cheese or soft cheese.
White Stilton is nice too.I'd avoid anything with fruit in it.
