advocaat? what on earth...

can I do with it if not drink it?
I have just tried it and it is horrid - too sweet and claggy - like a nasty custard. Mixing it with lemonade ( as it suggests on bottle) would make it even sweeter.
Any suggestions other than pouring it down the sink?

Make a snowball! (advocacy cocktail) if all else fails it'll taste much nicer after 4th one!!

amck5700 · 12/12/2012 23:36

send it to me :o

I haven't had it in years - it was my childhood Christmas/new year drink - we were a liberal family as far as alcohol is concerned - I has it as far back as I can remember - definitely early primary!

ElectricSoftParade · 12/12/2012 23:39

I love Snowballs :). They really should be drunk, well, all the time. Cherry B anyone?

ElectricSoftParade · 12/12/2012 23:41

The mix of advocaat and lemonade is just lovely. Really. Try it, you may find something delicious

amck5700 · 12/12/2012 23:43

Yes Electric - I agree - that's what I always had - might actually buy a bottle for Christmas and rekindle old tastes - I wonder if my boys would like it as a their Christmas drink?

OpheliaBumps · 12/12/2012 23:43

I was told to add rum as well as lemonade to make a proper snowball, must be worth a try?

SPsFanjoIsSantasLittleHoHoHo · 12/12/2012 23:44

I love snowballs!

I had them growing up and still have them at mums. Do not mix with vodka! I learnt that a couple of years ago

ElectricSoftParade · 12/12/2012 23:47

Oh, rum as well! Am going to try that Smile.

Amck The DCs have been promised a Snowball as a treat at Christmas. Bless em, they really don't need it!

amck5700 · 12/12/2012 23:48

Yes Ophelia - when in doubt, adding more alcohol to alcohol is always a good move :o

Except in SPs case that seems!!

ElectricSoftParade · 12/12/2012 23:48

Oh blimey, vodka as well! This will be the Year of Advocaat Drinks At Christmas.

My liver will be a bit off for a while, I think.

Electric - it is my main memory of my Dad - he always did the beer/spirit Christmas shopping - we were not well off, but he always bought a bottle of Advocaat for me :).

and being exposed to alcohol at a young age has not turned me into an alcoholic, I actually rarely drink.......but can hold my drink well when I choose to.

SPsFanjoIsSantasLittleHoHoHo · 12/12/2012 23:51

Too many snowballs and nearly passed out by 5pm that Christmas Grin

PieEyedAndLairySanta · 12/12/2012 23:52

A proper Snowball has a little lime as well as lemonade and in our house vodka too.

PieEyedAndLairySanta · 12/12/2012 23:53

Xmas Grin cross posted with SP Xmas Grin

supadupapupascupa · 12/12/2012 23:53

amck5700 · 12/12/2012 23:54

I'm definitely going to get some now :) Pity i've just done my Christmas grocery shopping order - means I'll actually have to set foot in a store!!

PieEyedAndLairySanta · 12/12/2012 23:55

supa has it Xmas Grin

ElectricSoftParade · 12/12/2012 23:56

amck My dad did the same. And I completely agree with your second para, what I meant was that I have spirited lively children. Possibly too lively without any help Sad.

amck5700 · 13/12/2012 00:02

lol Electric - No1 son (age 12) is a bit of a worry - even as a small child when tasting our wine did not do the whole body shiver - he just came back for more! He also once licked spilt beer from the tablecloth! He is very shy and I worry that if he finds that alcohol gives him confidence then we may have a problem on our hands! We have a few years to work on his confidence to avert disaster!!

LittlemissChristmas · 14/12/2012 12:43

You need to add a dash of lime with the lemonade. It's lovely and because I'm up duffed I will be enjoying nil Hmm

stubbornstains · 14/12/2012 12:48

Oh yes, Grandma always used to give me sips of her Christmas snowballs- from the age of about 7 Grin. And of course it had a maraschino cherry on a stick.....

amck5700 · 14/12/2012 12:48

I was about to see if there is such a thing as non-alcoholic egg nog and then thought..........eggs!!

You could always name the baby Advocaat - Addy for short :o
