What can I buy my 17 week old for Xmas?

Just that really, I have no idea what to get him, I want something useful that he will love in the coming weeks rather than a twee 'my first Christmas' stuff.

Any suggestions?

For DDs first xmas (she was about 14 weeks) we got her a swinging chair and that was it. Since they have no idea you might as well just get something you were planning to get anyway.

Ours only got a handful of books and ball from us for their first Christmas They'll get plenty of gifts from family and friends and you have years to make up for it.

I did spot a large Christmas version of those rather excellent Peekaboo books in Poundland this weekend, so that would make a nice gift.

a shiney helium balloon on a string.

Dont leave it with the baby,(because of the string) and if it distresses your child then obviously dont use it.
But its bouncey, reflective,and a nice cheap toy to interact with ,with your child.
The best thing you can give your little one is a happy,calm christmas.

We've just wrapped up all the clothes we were going to buy ds2 (20wks) anyway and put them under the tree.

His proper present is a really nice teddy - ds1 was given one he adores, so we wanted ds2 to have a nice one as well.

But haven't gone mad by any means - with the exception of ted, it was all stuff he needed anyway (currently all ds1's stuff that is the write size is the wrong season, the joy of having a July baby after a January one!) - he's far too young to really clock what's going on, unlike ds1, who was almost a year old for his 1st Christmas.

DS was a similar age on his first Christmas and he got a Whoozit rattle, which he loved and was intrigued by in equal measure.

A toy to clip on to the Pram? The RSPB do some pram toy birds, which make the right sound for that bird.

I've got ds 10 wks: ball, cloth book, stacking rings, bath toys, outfit, babygros and,vests next size up, and he will be getting wipes and cotton wool in his stocking!

We've got DD (14 weeks) a grobag, some hide and squeak eggs and will probably do a stocking just to keep her big brothers happy which will contain babygros and baby bath oil, sponge, bibs etc.

She was given lots of Lamaze toys and rattles when she was born and having 2 older children we have a world of baby stuff already!

I do like the balloon suggestion though.

We I bought my boys a new Christmas themed book every year and wrote in the front of them, so that we could have a pile of Christmas stories every Christmas Eve - it was going well until they were about 9 and 10 when my OH decided to clear out the bookshelves and gave them all away on the basis that the books were too young for them. I was fucking raging slightly annoyed. I didn't bother after that.

I agree with just getting a couple of toys/things for the 6 month age group - he will get loads of stuff from other people anyway.
