Already got toys in general, including lego, dolls, animal sets, colouring and arts & crafts stuff, puzzles and a money game. Are there any educational games you would recommend?

Mapominoes. Every home needs a set...

Guess who and connect 4 are fun.

Ime the more overtly educational things are, the less our ds's have played with them!

ELC have lots of phonics and sounds games which are fun.

A decent magnifying glass and a really good glass prism

I was seriously considering this Science Museum telescope/microscope set for DS, but at 4 years old I think he is a bit too young to get the most out of it (so he's getting binoculars instead, which might be another idea?).

It's reduced to under £10 inc delivery which is excellent value.

Jolly Phonics do a nice word game. I can't find a link though, so possibly discontinued.

Meccano do some brilliant kids starter boxes, as do Geomag and k'nex. All good for installing basic principles of maths and science as well as being very good for fine motor skills and creativity.

Those are all fantastic ideas! Please keep them coming!
