8 year old girl, help!

We have no idea what to get my dh's goddaughter. She is just 8. We have texted her parents but they haven't responded yet and I am hoping to go shopping tomorrow so if they don't answer any ideas? Can spend up to £20. I was looking at monster high dolls but was concerned that she either doesn't like them or already has them. We hardly see her so not sure what she likes.
Thanks!

Lego Friends?

aPirateInaPearTree · 08/12/2012 18:21

re text them just in case they didn't get it.

all girls are not the same, my dd would have hated those dolls!

Build a bear voucher?

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 08/12/2012 18:24

Def ask my niece who is 8 wants a batman costume!

fruitcorner · 08/12/2012 18:24

Arts and craft type stuff, sylvanians ( but only if she's into SF) Moshi monsters, polly pockets or barbie but it really depends on the child!

Littlebearlost · 08/12/2012 18:25

Thanks. Will text again and maybe see if dh will ring them. I haven't seen her since last christmas but she has always been quite girly and liked dolls, Barbies etc. which is why I thought maybe monster high.
Will have a look at Lego friends.

loads of arty/crafty girls' stuff in Argos at the moment; 2 for £15

How about some watercolour pencils plus nice paper? Pop cd? Wii game? Books?

Claire's accessories voucher?

MildlyMonica · 08/12/2012 20:34

many 8yr old girls start getting into clothes - something from Next is usually good value - maybe an Xmas party top or dress if you can stretch to it?

nannyof3 · 08/12/2012 21:20

Colouring books, pens, making things. Reading books... Moon sand

I would go for Harumika (fashion design) or nice stationery - there seems no end to the number of pencil cases 8-year-old girls can have - or something from Claires (which they all love). CDs like the Now That's What I Call Music are great. Or boardgames.

Hello kitty stationery
Jewellery box and jewellery
Crafty stuff

A onsie. They are all the rage right now.

agnesf · 08/12/2012 23:15

Klutz craft books are always really nice - there's a good one called paper fashions where you can make cut out outfits using stencils and lots of pretty coloured paper.

Also second suggestions of watercolour pencils & paper.

At 8 she can do these things without too much adult help which as a craft numpty I find a blessed relief.

agnesf · 08/12/2012 23:16

Oh yes YDdraigGoch - onsie's a great idea

Littlebearlost · 08/12/2012 23:40

Thank you so much for all your suggestions.
I have now been on amazon and ordered her a dejeco glitter fashion art set. She is very arty and it looks lovely so hopefully it'll be ok. I didn't want to risk clothes as wasn't sure on size as she is quite tall for her age, or at least she was when I last saw her!

Thanks again. :-)
