Wii U - what is this???

my DS has announced he'd like this for his birthday - not long after christmas.

He has a DS and a Wii but I cant get my head around this - plus they are over £200!!!

btw - he will be 8

ah I see so you use it as part of the Wii (on the TV) ummm not sure about that not as if you can take it on holiday etc...
