Homemade treats that can be sent in the mail?

Hi all,

I want to give the DC's grandparents either some homemade cakes, biscuits or sweets for Christmas. The only problem is we will have to post one of them...

Has anyone got any reccomendations on homemade treats that post well?

Oh and any top tips on how to package them would also be appreciated!!

I'm planning to do this for some presents too and have made four Christmas cakes already with the intention of giving a few away. I've saved some tins from Christmas chocolates/biscuits (no idea how we have managed to get through three tins already!). The only problem is that the money saved on making the present will be spent on postage!

My only other idea for homemade gifts was to bake cookies, which will be lighter and therefore cheaper to post, but you still have the challenge of packaging them so they don't arrive as crumbs.

Hope someone else will have better ideas!

Honeycomb? I've just received some from Ireland and it has travelled well all the way to my stomach

How about peppermint bark? I've been making some this morning and plan to break it into largish chunks to put in cellophane bags for teachers, but you could just make a tablet of it, wrap in baking parchment then for posting pop it in a box (eg one of those DVD gift boxes that HMV etc sell) inside a jiffy bag.

Was also thinking about making a cake or cookie mix and putting it in a jar or cup... Has anyone tried these before?
