Is half a pound of meat per person enough?

I think it is a pound per person.

You have to allow for the bones in the weight per person. According to the Tesco magazine, a 3.5kg (8lb) turkey will feed 4-6 people. It depends also on how much other meat you are serving with it, if you have gammon or sausages, sausagemeat stuffing or bacon, you can get away with less turkey. And especially if you are having a starter like pate or smoked salmon.

We usually have chicken as DH doesn't really like turkey, and the bones are smaller, with a lot more meat on them. We could probably feed 8 people from a 5lb chicken with sausages and bacon as well.
