Can some clever MNer please tell me how to put up decorations without ruining my walls?

I always go slightly OTT with the decorations - which means lots of garlands and lights draped around the walls/windows/bannisters.

Every year after Christmas when I take them down, taking off half the paintwork with them (having usually used selotape to fasten everything when it falls down two days after putting it all up with blue tac), I think to myself that next year I will think of a clever (mess free) way of putting them up next year.

So is there a clever way? I've also used drawing pins before, but after last years mess I carefully filled in all the holes left and repainted the cornices and walls where the selotape had pulled the paint off, so I really don't want to mess it all up again this year.

Thank you clever MNers Smile

Yes, I use command hooks, they are good. I put them on teh top of mirrors and across an archway thing I have in my lounge so I hang garlands. I then leave the hooks in place - they are not too noticeable.

I use 3M command hooks too - they are FAB!!you have to pull them off gently using the stretchy tab, but they really work - even on our wallpaper (I hang ribbon between them to peg cards onto, I hang felt sentiments from them, I hang dangly foil trees and things from the ceiling - no rips yet.... (and one wall is dark red paper - you would notice the slightest scratch).

Trouble is if they are not a secret any more then I'll never be able to find them in the shops - usually buy them in WHSmiths where they often have 3 for 2 offers on 3M stuff.
