I feel like I'm living in a garden centre.

DP and I only moved in together last year and last christmas we were away so did very little decorating wise. Yesterday we got out all our (combined) Xmas decs and this morning DP got up early and put them all up while I had my lie in. Which was absolutely lovely of him. Except he's put EVERYTHING up and his decs are so tasteless. There's foil decs ALL over the ceiling, soft toys everywhere, tinsel over every corner of anything, massive rope light 'sculpture' things stuffed into the windows, a load of new nails in the wall to hang up gaudy ornaments and coloured beads hanging in loads of inconvenient places. Looks like someone's eaten Christmas and thrown up.

Don't get me wrong, am VERY pleased he did all that work and saved me the hassle but it was so much it literally startled me when I walked into the lounge. And I wanted to only put up the tasteful stuff and maybe make some new decs with the dcs but there's no room now and even if there was it wouldn't really fit the theme. Don't want to be so ungrateful but don't know if I can live with this for the next month - everything's so shiny!

How do you deal with DH/DP's involvement?

Sorry, not much help I know but that made me chuckle. My DH loves Christmas too only he is much better than me at decorating the house so I leave it all to him anyway. If I try to put something on the tree he usually sighs then moves it somewhere else. He has a system you see...

I tend to end up sitting with a glass of wine and telling him how lovely it all looks.

Not sure what you can do about this year however when taking them all down you might just happen to "lose" a few boxes of the more tackier stuff so you can't find them next year? And then make sure you do it together from now on!
