Galaxy nexus - gift card for purchases?

Iam buying ds a nexus 7 for christmas. A relative is wanting to buy a gift card so that he can buy things to add to it on Christmas Day. Is this possible? Where do I buy one from if I can? I really haven't a clue about how to set this up. Admittedly I haven't looked at it properly but I have an iPad and that has always been so easy to register my card. However obv as for a child I do not wish to register my debit card against it for him!!

It uses Google Play. You can get GP gift cards from supermarkets etc, but they can be difficult to track down! I believe you can also send money to it as a gift without registering the card, but youd need the deVice and debit card to do so.
