What's the oddest thing DC have asked for, and did they get it?

Years ago DS asked for a yellow suit. Was v young & couldn't describe it but wanted it for months.
I bought him some thermal longjohns & a vest & dyed them bright yellow with dylon along with a pillow case that I attached as a cape. I got some red felt and cut it into his initial & attached it to the front with wonderweb.
He was delighted with it on Christmas morning & then never wore it Confused
DD has asked for a diamond maker this year - I've told her if she manages to get one I'd quite like a few diamonds myself.

Somebody DS also wants a reindeer. A baby one. That can live in the kennel in our backyard.

He is sure Santa is going to bring it. Hmm I have told him that the baby reindeer need to stay with their mommies and daddies but he said "well, puppies get new homes..."

Sigh.

fuzzpig · 01/12/2012 16:07

My DCs haven't really asked for anything yet.

The oddest thing I ever asked for was "a red ring binder with a dinosaur on the front" Xmas Hmm - I was about 6 and our neighbour asked what I wanted.

This being pre-Internet, of course she couldn't find one - but I unwrapped a plain red ring binder, with a cuddly t-Rex placed on top.

AWESOME present Xmas Grin

fuzzpig · 01/12/2012 16:08

Those of you with DC wanting reindeer, you should look out for a book called "what use is a moose" - not quite a reindeer, but it's very cute.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 01/12/2012 16:17

When my son was about 3 he wanted "a jellyfish with wheels". I never did manage to find anything suitable.

DewDr0p · 01/12/2012 16:25

Ds1 asked for a folder 2 years ago (so he could take a register on Christmas Day)

Ds2 asked for a ferry 3 years ago. I notice Playmobil now makes one but at the time the only thing I could find was a £120 Lego set so dh painstakingly made him one from Lego we already had. It took 2 whole evenings to get right.

Ds3 asked for a toy car last year. He also got proper big presents but he was so chuffed with his car "because that's what I asked Santa for and he did it cause he's magic" Xmas Smile

DoubleMum · 01/12/2012 16:26

A spinning wheel. (She was 4.)
A cuddly puffer fish.

FuckingWonderwoman · 01/12/2012 16:26

DD2 always asks for - and gets: a box of baklava, a tin of Heinz beans with sausages in and a jar of Goober's peanut butter and grape jelly in her stocking. She has been asking for these every year since she was about 4!! She's now 12!

MegBusset · 01/12/2012 16:36

Ds1 (amongst other things) asked for "a plant card" which seemed to mean a card with info about plants on it... I've got him a Dorling Kindersley book on plants which I hope will fit the bill.

He also refused to say the main thing he wanted "because then Santa won't bring it", DH eventually managed to wheedle it out of him (a Bin Weevil apparently).

last year ds1 (then 6) had 3 things on his christmas list to start with:

  1. To be able to do real magic like a real wizard so he could make whatever he wanted and do proper magic things like making his little brother disappear when he annoyed him like make chocolate cake or a new bike appear out of nowhere
  1. To be made into Lord High Ruler of the Universe so he could order everybody else to do what he wanted
  1. A new pair of swimming goggles

Guess which of the three he got Grin - swimming goggles. And a couple of days before christmas I spotted a magic wand in John Lewis that had a light on the end and made a little noise when you pressed the button so he got that too. very tricky to buy though as he was with me - I had to collar one of the ladies and ask her very nicely if she could pick one up for me and take it to the till point so he didn't see me with it - she was a sweetie and did, think it happens quite a lot there!

All ds2 (then 3) wanted meanwhile was a 'red robot'. That was it - no other description. in the end he got two - a little toy one meant for babies really from ELC as that was the only one I could find originally. Then again, a couple fo days before christmas he was in a toyshop and spotted a toddler version of a red transformer robot/fire engine which he saw from a distance and lovingly said Red Robot!!!! at so again, had to nobble one of the ladies there to stick one behind the till for me!

This year they seem to want everything and nothing - anything that pops up on tv, but nothing really sticks. lego gets mentioned lots but ds1 has it already and never plays with it. The playmobil zoo - but that's more expensive than I was planning and there haven't been any nice half price offers. a remote control helicopter which I refuse to have in the house on the basis of I have seen how they drive an RC car - no way are they getting to do a RC helicopter and cause more chaos!

ihatethecold · 01/12/2012 16:45

afew years ago my ds wrote on his xmas list

Mocan troll.

can anyone guess what he meant Grin

BRANdishingMistletoe · 01/12/2012 16:57

DD (aged 4) wants a spider this year. I, hopefully, asked her if she wanted a toy spider, but she wants a real live one. Hmm

TidyDancer · 01/12/2012 17:03

ihatethecold - I'm guessing that was a remote control? Grin

DS wants a frog and some tinsel. My boy is easy! We have got him a selection of frog items and his own collection of different coloured tinsel. :)

SummerRain · 01/12/2012 17:05

I hate cold... A remote control?

FellowshipOfFestiveFellows · 01/12/2012 17:05

Not an odd request but an odd observation- we're currently allowing the dcs to put the tat on the tree as I type and later on I will do it properly
My dd (5) has just picked up a reindeer baubles and said "look at this one eyed alien zombie reindeer Mummy" Xmas Confused

I think she's been watching too much Doctor Who frankly Xmas Smile

wigglybeezer · 01/12/2012 17:07

Remote controlled car?

MirandaWest · 01/12/2012 17:13

DD asked for a pink polar bear when she was three. I searched high and low but couldn't find one :(

toysintheattic · 01/12/2012 17:19

DS (5) has asked for a roll of masking tape and cardboard boxes. Guess what he'll do with the expensive Playmobil stuff I've bought then? He currently has an obsession with wrapping boxes in masking tape. The blutack idea is a good one, he loves that too, would be thrilled to get some in his stocking. He'll spend all Christmas Day sticking things! He's also asked for another (large, expensive) bin lorry (he got one last year for Christmas) so I can play with one too! Smile

Sleepwhenidie · 01/12/2012 17:21

DS1, the Christmas he was 3 was adamant that all he wanted was a rope "for rescuing people from holes like Fireman Sam". Did not ask for another single thing, from November til xmas eve. Of course he got it. Hasn't found many people stuck in holes though and he is now 7 Xmas Grin...he was happy though!

TeddyBare · 01/12/2012 17:25

noisytoys Would this be a possible solution to getting the whole town under your Christmas tree? www.etsy.com/listing/81611189/i-am-here-your-neighborhood-custom-map It's a personalised play mat but a map.

bumbez · 01/12/2012 17:26

A couple of years ago my dd then 4 asked for a wand that could do real magic!

This year she'd like an iPad :(

aPirateInaPearTree · 01/12/2012 17:35

dd age 10 wants some test tubes. Smile

overthehill · 01/12/2012 17:39

My ds has an interesting brain(!) and has come up with some unusual requests in his time. When he was seven he told a Santa we came across that he wanted a sandwich toaster for Christmas, and we were as surprised as Santa! Another time when he was about 8 he asked for a gadget to help him slice bread, and he insisted when he was 4 or 5 that we make a chocolate bus birthday cake for dh! When he was three he set his heart on a badge maker (as he'd seen one in a toy shop), but unfortunately they were the toy to have that year and so I was 'competing' with all the people whose children have to have the latest craze. It took a heck of a lot of effort to track one down - but I was successful in the endSmile.

QOD · 01/12/2012 17:42

My dd asked for crutches actually she whined repeatedly that when she sprained her ankle we didn't take her to hospital and its so unfair as so and so got crutches

She got crutches for Christmas last year, her FACE! Hilarious, she was 13 too

diddiehunter · 01/12/2012 17:51

a dragons egg was asked by my 7yr old. so i bought a goose egg,had it blown out, decorated it.....she opened it and said "thats not a dragons egg!!its fake!!" Sad

minderjinx · 01/12/2012 17:57

My DS came home from school and told me there were new children (twins)in his class but they were really horrible to their parents and had asked for a huge list of Christmas presents - mainly electronics stuff. He said "I told them this list was much too greedy and did they think how much work Mum and Dad would need to do to earn enough to buy all that stuff. I said they should just ask Mum and Dad for one thing and ask Santa for the rest ".
