Thinking about getting an iPad but know nothing about them. How do they compare to a laptop and can you convert Microsoft documents so they can be stored on an iPad? Sorry to appear dim but have always used a laptop with Microsoft software. Thanks in advance for any info people who have swapped to ipod can give.

Have you tried posting on geeky stuff or chat? You might get a few more responses.

I have an iPad and I don't find it suitable for any office documents. In order to use word, excel etc you have to pay for an app to get it. They cost approx £6 plus you need a WiFi printer to be able to print anything.
It's good for internet and games or movies.

I use MS docs and iPad but agree that it isn't really great for working. It depends how much writing you will be doing.

Compatibly isn't the problem. Using the on screen keyboard is.

It's the best thing in the Universe.

Love the iPad, but not for work stuff as you can't type up documents on it as the keyboard is on the screen.
Great for surfing the net, online shopping, sending the odd quick email, playing apps (love the Scrabble app).

You can buy a separate keyboard but if you do that, you might as well use a laptop. I bought an iPad to stop me using my work laptop as I would inevitably log n to work email and then end up working. An iPad is my strategy for not doing work. In saying that however, they are starting to be more visible in my workplace. Still struggling to understand why they are needed.
