Sarah Raven - duck egg decorations - HELP! and Cranberry ones - Help some more!

Fancied trying my hand at the sarah raven duck egg decorations. Have the eggs, the darning needle, the ribbon. However I can see that the needles are quite short in comparison to the egg so after I have pushed the needle with the ribbon through it into the egg it won't be possible to direct it through the other hole. Plus the hole in the needle looks too small for the ribbon.

Anyone made these? Do I need bigger darning needles (they only had one size).

ALSO has anyone made the cranberry ones - do they last? or do I need to spend £20 on cranberries to make these!

thanks very much

Thread loop of cotton through needle, tie into a loop plenty bigger than egg.

Dangle needle down through egg so it falls through lower hole (oh dear this is sounding weird). Lower hole might need to be a bit bigger.

then put the ribbon through the loop of thread, and pull right through.

(disclaimer, never seen Sarah Raven but this is the way to thread beads onto knitting yarn which is also a PITA)

I did try cranberry decorations one year IIRC they discoloured horribly but possibly I had bad technique.
