learn to sew gift for a 14 year old?

I want to buy dn a learn to sew book, and maybe a few bits and pieces to go with it as she has a new sewing machine but hasnt really got started with it, she is having sewing lessons at school , so just a book with a few simple projects that would appeal to a teenager. Can anyone reccommend one to me please?

The Cath Kidston "Sew" book is nice with some simple projects and all the materials cut out and ready to sew for the bag on the front cover.

I have the Sew book and I'm quite experienced but I found some of the projects very tricky. There is a whole thread somewhere about the knitting bag pattern and the fact that it just doesn't work. Plus the projects are all things like hot water bottle covers and napkins which I would think are less interesting for a 14 year old. Teenagers often like to make their own clothes so I would recommend "101 Great Ways to Sew a Metre" which has great and simple ideas to sew a metre of fabric into bags, skirts, tops, dresses etc. Try also Chic on a Shoestring.

Try also "One Piece Wearables" which is a great book full of clothes and accessories which can be made from single pattern pieces. Available on Amazon ( as are the other two I mentioned).

thanks poshfrock, ive had a look and i see what you mean, im going to give sew to her mum and buy dn one of the ones youve mentioned, off to have a more in depth look.
