Stir up Sunday... Who, What, Where, When?

I haven't made a Christmas cake since I was a child. I used to love stiring the cake and making a wish and adding shiny 5 pence pieces. If you found a coin in your slice of cake, it meant your wish would come true.

Im not sure what recipe to use but I'm determined to make a cake today. :)

Oh, and is it just the choking hazard, the reason we don't add silver coins anymore, because my dcs are much older and less likely to choke and I'd love love to throw something in.

I'm doing a Christmas Cake today .I said I wasn't going to bother but I really fancy fruit cake and crumbly cheese. So I've got sultanas in sherry for a light fruit cake.

I've never put coins in the cake but I bought a Sainsburys Heritidge Pudding a couple of years back in a ceramic basin (that I've still got) and a thrup'ney bit. - with dire warnings not to put it in the pudding Confused

I did my cake yesterday. Three loaves and 3 dozen 'tasters' I use my grandmas old recipe and her tins. I don't bother icing them as they keep longer. My grandma has just started the one I made last year and it was great.

Just given the cakes the first feed of brandy.

If the tasters are anything to go by they are going to be lush!

Christmas cake in oven as I type. Christmas pud all mixed up and ready to steam later today (everyone taken their turn and made a wish). Love Stir Up Sunday. It is the start of Christmas for us and we always photograph the DCs stirring so it is a wonderful marker of how much they have grown and changed each year :)

I use Nigella's cake recipe and a Good Housekeeping pudding recipe from December 2000.....DS1's first Christmas :)
