Non tacky room decs and tree decs to go with these

Hi all,just wondered for those that decorate their living rooms not just their trees, what sort of decs do you put up? I would like to decorate the living room a little but not too tacky (eg. foil stars blu-tacked
To ceiling etc - not that anything wrong with that) or expensive (live the moving resin village scenes but too much £). Also have a new tree being delivered tomorrow and want to make it stunning -like a traditional style-what would you suggest to go with these?baubles have no other tree decs other than these, fairy lights, a red,white and gold tinkerbell and glass/red Mickey Mouse bauble.Is tinsle 'out' nowadays?what about ribbon instead? Thanks in advance!

Have you considered tying chiffon ribbon to bows on your tree - or maybe tartan ? that would lovely with your traditional type decs - with tinsel I thin it depends on the tree.

Lots of fabric swags and fir cones can be done v inexpensively but look stunning.

I go for the nordic but shabby chic style so a bit of fabric bunting and lots of red and white and battery operated fairy lights over every wall - hoping to hang some stars ( 5 point ones dead cheap in wilkos this year) and make some 5 point snowflakes for the wall. DD also has some paperchains for dining room.

I think with those baubles you linked to, you could have a mixture of shiny and matt plain baubles which would be relatively cheap as 'background', and have your traditional and any more expensive ones as the main focal points. You could have some clip on robins as in the link pic, and some knitted style Christmas puds!

I don't think it's important to buy all expensive decs, you can achieve an expensive look with a mixture and not too costly when you are starting from scratch. My own tree is so laden with decs bought over the years that I don't need ribbons/garlands/tinsel etc!

Went to the Range today and managed to spend £50 on christmas decs - easily done though! Got multipack of red and gold baubles,2 red and 2 gold ribbons to wrap round the tree rather than tinsel, a tree base skirt, star for the top, some bells,berry and pine cone decs, and 4 individual pretty decs red or gold. For the room I got 2 red honeycomb bells to hang from the celing and a long garlandy-type thing for the sideboard.Thanks for your help. Roll on next weekend when I can put it all up! Also got a big plastic coke bottle to start saving the pennies in the new year!

Ooh and a pack of traditional red bows for the tree!

Queen mauve great idea but we have blinds!as my new tree arrived today dh asked 'are you not putting it up?' So somehow I'm sitting here having put up my new tree and decs! A whole week earlier than I was planning to but nevermind!looks beautiful-can highly recommend using ribbons rather than tinsel m-looks v classy!
