My 9 yr old has just been introduced to Cluedo and loves it, so that's maybe one for the older pair. He also like Monopoly and chess.

My six year old likes things like snakes and ladders, ludo etc. Mainly games of luck rather than skill or technique.

thanks stinky I'm just worried they'd already have cluedo.. The 8 year old loves chess though apparently but want something that does involve an element of luck (this is for the 6 & 8 year old) otherwise he'll beat his sister everytime & it'll just cause arguments!

Idid see an updated version of monopoly online just now (city something?), which I could get, so even if they have bog standard monopoly it would be a bit different?

My girls now 8 and 10 loves pictureka ( he class bought one and tgey loved it so much i got one for home but made more cards as they were so used to finding the objects as played so much with it), battleships, guess who, revolution monopoly which uses a kind of credit/ bank card rather than paper money. Used to be called mastermind now called brain master,
UNO is brilliant but not a board game, bop it extreme also. Want to the get the new version just out now.

Just bought a new game for them called Nibtz from Amazon, looks interesting but have not played before.

Last year got them Drumond Park Family Game Word Search by Drumond Park,
Tension The Zany Crazy Naming Game by Cheatwell Games
Last Word - The Game by Paul Lamond Games
Articulate for Kids by Drumond Park
Pass the Bomb Junior
Get It Wrong To Win Boardgame by Imagination Games

Wanted to get more word games for them

I read up on the reviews on Amazon first and they all sounds like fun.

I recommend mousie mousie for the 6-8 year olds. Not expensive, and a simple classic.

I love rush hour and I am 34

Settlers of Catan for the older ones

steppemum · 27/11/2012 00:37

I was just about to suggest Settlers of Katan. It is great game. younger one can play too alongside an adult or with a bit of help.

WidowWadman · 27/11/2012 06:49

Carcassonne!

nooka · 27/11/2012 06:52

My two (13 and 11) recently really enjoyed Munchkins. Very silly. We're getting that plus Settlers for Christmas. A much enjoyed game when they were younger was Toss Your Cookies (no skill and a bit of anarchy, what's not to like!)

mintchocchick · 27/11/2012 06:58

What about Risk for the 8 & 12 yr olds? My DSs who are 7&12 play this and love it though the 7yr old has no 'strategy' about him so is like a bull in a china shop with his troops, then loses spectacularly! But interesting to see him gradually learning to take a more longer term approach.
