How about going for Brian Cox's Wonders of the Solar System? He won't understand everything that's said, but it's beautifully produced with lots of amazing images to enjoy.My DS must have been 5 or 6 when we watched it together. You could get something like an Usborne book to accompany it which he would understand.

I did have a look at a trailer for that on you tube but thought he would be too young, is there alot of visual in it then? he would definatly love the visuals, just googled the usbourne book £3 odd on amazon will get him that thank you :)
