Help! DS (3) wants an 'aeroplane' for Christmas - any ideas?

He has a twin brother so it will need to take some knocks as no doubt it will be regularly hurled through the air!

I've had a look on Amazon but wondered whether any of you have a brilliant suggestion!!

Playmobil one is reduced to £25 in toys r us

We haven't had any playmobil so far - is it good? Will it get smashed up?

Thanks for the Argos link - I think he might find that a bit babyish - he is currently into tractors/ tractor models and they have to look like the real thing.

(Though he's never been near / on a plane so guess he wouldn't know)

Playmobil click and go jet might withstand 3yo chucking about better than the big plane? (our experience was the wings and wheels constantly fall off the big one, but do click back on).

Or lovely magnetic one?

Or build it type? Ours is pretty sturdy. 20% off ELC until Sunday.

DS is only just getting into playmobil (he was 3 last week) and what he has seems good.

My nephew got the plane last year and it has been played with by him and his - rather rough - 18 month old brother and survived!

I was going to suggest Playmobil too!

Dd has an Elc happyland one which she has had since about 1yo. Its tough and definitely withstood many knocks but maybe a bit basic for a 3yo.

Did I read that once you have 'built' Playmobil you should stick it together to avoid having to constantly rebuild it?

My mum has an old Duplo one, it was given to her when my cousins finished with it, so she could have some toys at her house for when the grandchildren visit. Over the last 10 years (it was already c.8 yo before that) it has been loved by four boys now aged 11-4 and TBH even my DS1, the 11yo, still plays with it a fair bit when we're there. An excellent toy IMO and indestructible.

We don't have any duplo - went straight from megablocks to Lego.

I've ordered the playmobil one but I'm now wondering whether I should cancel the order and go for Duplo instead.

Our Duplo airplane set is now 7 years old, my eldest ds got it when he was 3 and it has been played with my all 5 dc. It's like new it's so sturdy. The set had an airport tower, little men, a truck and little suitcases to put in the plane. A very good buy.

We have the little people (fisher price) one from amazon, about £14. Ds got it for his 2nd birthday and is loving it. Really chunky and matches the other little people things we have.

Another vote for Duplo, although it does take up a lot of space. We use those under the bed boxes, with wheels.

One each of those small playmobil jets.

DD2 is a huge playmobil fan and the big plane is our only disappointment.

Our wings stay on, but our undercarriage and tail fin don't

Imaginext stuff is brilliant, really sturdy and lasts for ages. They had a few airplane items a few yers ago, unsure hat they have now tbh.

There is this which my ds2 has and comes with a plane. It's a great toy, lasted yers so far.

The Duplo one is incredibly sturdy. My DS is nearly 5 and he still loves it. (Not helping much there, am I?!)

Gosh this is exactly what I'm researching right now! Is the big jet really ropey? Is the leisure jet better? My DS is also 3

The playmobil one can be glued but its not like the duplo one which you can stand on :-)

Another vote for the Duplo plane (part of an airport set when we bought it I think?) Seemed to be virtually indestructible...

We have had almost every make and model of plane in this house as ds has been obsessed with planes since he was 2. Including the playmobil one, which is good, although inconveniently bulky - and the engines and wheels do keep coming off. At that age I let ds have die cast metal ones (there aren't a lot of large plastic spitfires and Messerschmitts around and he wanted to do dogfights) - yes, the propellers and wheels will get snapped off quite quickly, and if you have a child prone to throwing toys you will get chipped paintwork (and if you drop a hurricane on your bare toe on the wrong angle it might bleed) but they are at least real looking, can be flown around the room at speed and taken on outings etc etc. plus they are on about the same scale as a train set and you can build hangars out of cardboard boxes.

If you want a big plastic one I'd economise and go for one of these

Duplo one every time - my boys had it and the whole street have played with it now - it has passed through every hand in a 2 mile radius :) It's indestructable!

We have both the Fisher Price Little People plane and one of the Wow Toys planes, can highly recommend both.
