She is showing an interest in electronics - my former career so wooohooooooooo!! - and wants a starter kit for Christmas - something you can light up a bulb, make an alarm that sort of thing - there are loads of kits out there - some good some crappy, so wondered if anyone has any recommendations - and ones to avoid please... many thanks..

The John Adams Hot Wires kit is fab. We got it for our DS last year and he and his mates all love it. You can make everything from a radio to a lie detector. It's on offer on Amazon atm.

Another vote for hot wires.

LOL iseenodust hubby is getting a raspberry pi from us for Christmas - so maybe it can work with an electronics kit - program it to make the switch go etc...

Hot Wires looks good! oh - and the other one too.... need to spend some time researching I think......

ds2 got his first soldering iron for his 7th birthday and loves mucking around with kits and components from Maplins.

The John Adams thing I would say would be quite simplistic for a keen 10 yr old.
