Anyone know where I can buy speculaas biscuits in UK?

We want to celebrate St Stephen's day again this year. I can easily get the choc coins even though DD is dairy free (found a company who do goat milk ones), but ... where to get the speculaas biscuits?

I know I could make them, but every recipe I see requires 50,000- a lot of different ingredients in piddly- small quantities. I would rather not have the hassle and try to find some shop-bought. Then my next challenge will be to see if dairy-free ones exist.

I think lidl sell these, and they are dairy free cos I checked the other day. They're quite large flat spiced biscuits with different pictures on them - are these similar what you're looking for?

And they're very popular in Germany under the name of Spekulatsius (pronounced shpek-oo-lat-tsee-oos) - I would also imagine you can get them from any German-style Christmas market, like the big one in Birmingham.

My DC love spekulatsius, but I would never dare make them myself - far too tricky.

Aldi should have them.

I was doing my weekly shopping in Kaufland and bought two huge packs for 89 cents each yesterday actually! I had to hide them in the wardrobe to ensure there will actually be some left for December, as DH and DS love them.

If you live in Brighton I can bring you some packets over at the end of the month!

Yeah, as said, Lidl, and usually Aldi as well from about mid-November onwards. If you want to make your own, substitute a few tsp of mixed spice for the piddly quantities of various spices, it's not quite the same but it'll do in a pinch. (I import speculaas spice mix from Holland when I go to see my family but the mixed spice is fine when I run out).

I was in Aldi and Lidl this afternoon (they are handily placed almost side by side) and they both had them. Bought some in Lidl, love them.

Am Dutch and a regular afternoon snack amongst my school friends was white bread, buttered, speculaas biscuits on top and then another buttered slice of white bread. A speculaas biscuit sandwich - food of the gods!! Yum yum yum...

Ok, so please inform if you rcan buy Speculoos biscuits in this country, can you also buy Speculoos spread?

We have to rely on trips to France or family sending it over. My DM has got a neighbours son hooked on it and he's suffering withdrawal symptons!

Dd2 hooked on the spread too. Have to rely on the nieces and nephews bringing it over from belgium

Have not seen the spread anywhere. In fact, we did not even have it in Holland when I was growing up. I first tasted (and loved) speculoos spread in Antwerp this summer

Thank you for the advice, I shall be looking in haunting Aldi and Lidl until I find some (if only I'd known, I was in Aldi yesterday). Espec' helpful if they are dairy-free. 'Twill make DD very happy.

I also saw nice tins of the 'Danish' butter biscuits we always had when I was little. I plan on getting one of those too (to share I hasten to add).

Oooh, I got some of those lovely tins of Danish biscuits, to pop in IL's and friend's hampers (and one or two for us...)

Hi I got two packs in the 99p store and they are the good Coppenrath Brand. Just as an aside as I have German roots, the Tesco own brand Lebkuchen Hearts are very authentic and yummy!

The speculoos spread - yum! Last week I did an online shop from Waitrose for the first time, and they included a little sample pack of speculoos spread! I have already eaten it (of course) so not sure of the brand, but it would be worth phoning Waitrose to inquire. If it helps, I'm in central London so my shop would have been dispatched from there.

I had no idea that it is actually a Belgian product until last month. When our Belgian team member got a bit affronted when someone asked if it was Dutch or German!

I think we hurt his National pride.

I bought speculoos spread today in my local Waitrose store! £2.59 a jar.
