Dd likes it, I'm concerned it's too "young"??

It's fine. My just turned 7 year old loves it, so does my nearly 9 year old. I was still playing with it at age 11 in fact I'm still playing with it now.

InNeedOfBrandy · 10/11/2012 16:33

I personally think sylvanian familys are a waste of money and to expensive for what they are, but if you hink she'l play with the ad get your moneys worth..

LadyMargolotta · 10/11/2012 16:59

They do cost a lot but you can sometimes get them half price in the Sainsbury's sale. I still have some which are 25 years old, so they appear to last quite well.

EnidMary · 10/11/2012 17:36

I don't think it's too young at seven, but might be too young at eight or nine. So it might be discarded early on down the line. I'm thinking of my niece who, at eight years, thinks Sylvanians are babyish.

SauvignonBlanche · 10/11/2012 17:38

7!
DD is happily playing with hers ATM and has mentioned wanting more for Christmas, she's 12.

flakjacket · 10/11/2012 17:41

Yup. 9 yo still plays with hers, wants more for Christmas and her 11 yo sister and 5 yo brother will happily play for hours too. They set up games which go on for days in the holidays.

dd, 11, still loves hers so definitely at 7

MrsShrek3 · 10/11/2012 19:01

The one I'm looking at is under half price (£44 instead of 99) in smyths. I wouldn't buy at full price Blush
She loved it, I'll go for it tomorrow. Thanks all Smile

what is 99 reduced to 44 at smyth's? Can't see that online. thanks.

dedee · 10/11/2012 21:46

My 8 year old doesn't play with her SF anymore so I will be packing it away. She prefers creative / arty things.

Kennyp · 10/11/2012 22:01

My dd has lovd sylvnians since she was 6, i love them too. Gorgeous :)

KevinFoley · 10/11/2012 22:42

Age 7 is definitely not too old. It depends on the individual and what they are 'into' I think, rather than their age. If she really wants them I would buy them, they hold their value and are very well made (keep the boxes to sell on later).

Heifer · 10/11/2012 23:03

My DD (almost 9) did stop playing with hers when she was 7.5 but then got them back out recently and started playing with it again, and wants some more for Christmas.

MrsShrek3 · 10/11/2012 23:04

cazza, it's the terraced house. Appears it was allegedly originally £89.99, my mistake.... website has it at a fiver more than instore Grin although the box is a bit battered i have to admit

OP posts:
MrsShrek3 · 10/11/2012 23:07

she's a bit of a tomboy and doesn't really like dolls, hates barbies and such, which is probably why this animal meets dolls house appeals :)

My 6.9 yo dd will be getting my sister's old sylvanian collection for Christmas this year (with a new family added I think). Me and my sister played with them for years and years and I hope DD will too :)

FredWorms · 11/11/2012 00:00

My 11.5yo stills loves 'em.

rhondajean · 11/11/2012 00:09

I'm 36 and still play with DDs Blush

I just bought DD who's 6 and half some more for christmas, she got cottage and one family last year and now will be getting camper van and the tree house. I only spent £7.59 on those two, used tesco clubcard exchange (£35 worth of vouchers). SF is expensive but has high resale valueGrin

cece · 11/11/2012 23:22

I started buying DD hers when she was 5. She is 11 this year and has asked for some extra bits this year to go into her hotel (that was her main present last year).

flyoverthegoldenhill · 11/11/2012 23:32

rhonda Grin I was in JL today too and wanted some for me gd so clearly I am alot older than you

lisad123 · 11/11/2012 23:33

Both my girls play with these. Mine are 5 and nearly 10!
I loved mine and was Angry when I discovered my mum had sold them instead of having them in the loft for my children.

The girls have house, hotel, nursery, camper van and loads of families
