What is dishwasher vodka and, is it a good gift?

Do I need to chop up the chocolate? Will it totally dissolve or will I need to skim it? I'm planning on lots of chocolate 'sipping' vodkas! I may have bought one more bottle than I need, you know, quality control and all that

Yes, chop the chocolate as small as you can - don't forget you've got to be able to shove it into the top of the bottle, through the neck, anyway.

The heat from the dishwasher 'melts' the chocolate into the vodka, so you end up with a chocolatey/creamy/alcoholic drink - no skimming needed.

Skimming is only needed if you use 'hard' sweets.

Ola Oh now I feel old. Mark and Lard presented a great programme together on R1 at various time a few years back. Blimey Charlie was one of their catch phrases - an expression of surprise; although I guess other people must've used it before them too.

Agree this is a good thread! Some interesting suggestions. I like home made flavoured vodka. I like the studenty experimental aspect to it. No way would I drink vodka otherwise. I bet there are vodka purists who shudder at all this messing about with it. But to me it just tastes firey hot with no other taste on its own.

If you haven't got a dishwasher, aiming, just stand your bottle of vodka + choc in a large bowl (the kitchen sink) of boiling hot water - but make sure the boiling water doesn't crack the glass of the bottle though.

I stole this from another thread -Black jack vodka. Its brilliant, you don't need to put it in the dishwasher just shake. Chilli vodka was great - for very hot bloody marys

Microwaving will cook of the alcohol i think. As you can't put the metal I'd on.

If you have the time you could just leave it and give it a shake every day for a few weeks or someone up thread said o stand the bottle in boiling water in the sink until the sweets dissolve.

Ooh this all sounds amazing. Unfortunately I don't think my family really even drink spirits. Possibly could try for SIL... but don't really know what they drink and would be very worried about messing it up!

I made a chocolate orange one years ago and melted the chocolate orange and added it to the vodka

For my curlywurly vodka I put about 6 or 7 in. They fold quite easily to go through the neck of the bottle. I give it at least 2 hot washes in the dishwasher. Then I put into small bottles (from eBay) print off labels and give them away!!
I do try it as I go along, sometimes I put extra toffees in if its too harsh. Depends on the cheapness of the vodka! I've used Smirnoff for my own consumption and it was lovely
