What do you do with Christmas cards

as in how do you display them?

I'm not a fan of them at all, we have little space so they end up getting blu tacked to the wall and everytime someone walks past one falls off. I need a new idea.

I was just thinking the same.

Last year we did a mixture of things. The family cards go on the mantlepiece, then all the others go on a piece of cotton (thats suspended from two hooks, the ones that dont mark your walls when you take it down)

I hate blue tac with a passion because of the little marks it leaves.

or have you thought about a card holder? like this

family cards on bookcase and sidetable. Other cards slotted over a piece of string pinned at each end (into the underneath side of the coving), high up across the living room wall - can't see string for cards. Gets them out of the way, but is still a sort-of display.

Chippychop · 05/11/2012 15:47

I Hang mine down the spindles on the stairs on pieces of ribbon or string

We have an older house that has delft racks so all the cards go on those and I remove a years worth of dust before they go up

The day that the cards arrive they get displayed on bookcase. As we get more and the space fills up, I replace the ones that are on display with the new ones, making sure that family cards (we don't have big families) and "nice" cards are left up, and that the others are just put in a pile. I always mean to do something with them......

Open them, read them, bin them Blush

The religious ones all go together near the Christmas crib. The rest I sort into colours and then the nicest ones go on the mantelpieces and the rest are stuck on doors. Latecomers and odds and sods go down the outside of the staircase. I am a bit OCD about cards - my family are highly amused but it keeps me entertained.

Any I get (which is not very many as I gave up sending them years ago) end up stacked in a pile on the worktop.
Then I get a grip and recycle them.

Pascha · 05/11/2012 18:37

Pictish are you my mum?

storminabuttercup · 05/11/2012 21:41

So it's ok to bin them??

I am going to display ones from family/close friends but the rest I'm going to punch two holes in and fasten them together with book rings from Staples, to make a display type book. I'll make a cover of some description. I'm going to put them on the coffee table for peeps to look through. Like this pinterest.com/pin/249879479296262139/

In a big christmassy bowl on the coffee table.

pictish · 06/11/2012 15:39

No offence, but who wants to look through someone else's christmas cards?

ChippyMinton · 06/11/2012 16:15

Some folk do. My (very lovely) MIL does, for one.
Personally, I wouldn't.

mamalovebird · 06/11/2012 16:19

blu tack them to the living room and dining room doors out of reach of sticky 2 year old fingers.
