Just because some people chose to buy more that doesn't mean their children are spoilt brats Four

monkeyfacegrace · 15/11/2012 18:38

For Christmas eve they have new Pajamas to wear. Will also get them an XMAS DVD (Maybe Micky's Christmas?). So after a nice warm bubble bath, into new pajamas we will curl up with some nice snack foods, hot chocolate and watch the DVD. We also always read the night before Christmas book which reappears on Christmas eve lol.

We have a large family as well. Both lots of my partner's parents usually give money so girls can spend in sales or we use to buy passes for a zoo/theme park etc.

My mum is getting them a joint gift of wooden dolls house with accessories. Plus she has got the eldest Playmobil camper van, and the youngest Jumping in muddy puddles Peppa pig.

My partner's sister is getting the eldest some scooby doo figures and the youngest duplo.

I have 3 brothers on my side and know one has got the girls a build the bear each, not sure about the others though!

Plus have an auntie and uncle who also buy for them- they usually get loads of bubble baths, chocolates, pajamas etc.

Phew, can't wait!!!

My comment about "less is more, don't want spoilt brats" was a "pop" at myself - not meant to offend others - one year we went well over the top and got far too much for them all because we were so exited and thought they would love it but we had romanticised christmas and actually on reflection it was toooo much and they were overwhelmed by it and this inevitably led to undesirable behaviour .....the year after we got them lovely gifts but less and it was a much more enjoyable festive season all round! We found that with less toys the children were far happier and played creatively and properly with them rather than flitting from one toy to the other and not really getting anything out of the toys but frustration!!! Lesson learnt for us. Our consumerist society put immense pressure on us parents to buy buy buy spend spend spend at Christmas and we can easily lose sight of the true meaning of Christmas It is lovely to read the threads on this post from people who are making things or not going Ott but not feeling guilty about it either because they are confident in their parenting decision about what is best for their family at Christmas time It is a shame for the parents on this thread who are worrying about having bought "enough" for their children and shame on our society for making them feel this way because the gifts they are listing sound just perfect !!!!!

FOURBOYSUNDER6 · 17/11/2012 10:57

That was a bit waffly sorry !!!! To summarise... It is a bit like "Charlie and the chocolate factory" ! One year we were guilty of over indulging and creating a tribe of spolit brat Veruca Salts and what we want to try harder to do is create a clan of lovely appreciative Charlie Buckets ! The reality will lie somewhere in the middle but we can but try .... X

happypotamus · 17/11/2012 15:53

DD with be 20 months.
We are getting her:
happy land zoo
10 books for £10 pack
a dress to wear on the day
pyjamas
(I had bought some wellies but let her have them today to splash in puddles)

Her stocking will have:
crayons
farm animals
extra happyland characters
bubble bath
toothbrush
book
pack of 3 cars from elc
jigsaw
possibly some plastic tat bracelets
a small fabric doll

Other ideas that we may get or suggest to relatives or not bother with:
aquadoodle
play dough
more duplo
a garage
an eggcup! we don't have any egg cups and she likes boiled eggs, I'm thinking of one which is set into a plate so you don't get egg everywhere

Other relatives I know are getting her other happyland sets and a shopping trolley.
