DD aged 3 and DS aged 6.....got main presents for each but what else?!

OP posts:
alwaysworriedtoo · 03/11/2012 23:24

After reading some of these list it feels like we are being a bit mean too but like also some of the other threads she does already have lots of toys and playsets. But anyway we have bought her
Abbi Abonible monster high
Draculaura monster high
Opperatta monster high
On three for two at tesco!
A horrible histories annual and a couple of other books.
I would like to get her some monster high roller boots but dh says she doesn't need them as already has a scooter and she has bought herself a skate board that she hardly ever uses and has an old pair of (mine)(1970's style adjustable with red leather lace up erea) roller skates.
I think for her other present we shall get her the new mario game for her ds...
She is definatly not getting spoilt this year, well not by us anyway! I'm sure inlaws will go barmy as usual!
I think Father Christmas will leave a pair of socks on the tree as well as he always does.

ScottishBritishMNer · 04/11/2012 07:43

Missmakesstuff - you have nothing to feel bad about. They're lovely presents for your DD.

What people get their DC for Christmas can depend on so many factors beyond just affordability - whether GPs buy big presents, how many other people buy things, whether they get toys, books and games throughout the year, whether birthdays or Christmas are the 'big' toy buying times etc.

My DS is getting a few things, but we tend not to go mad at birthdays and he doesn't get stuff throughout the year. His GPs, while more than generous, wouldn't really buy the big items like a scooter etc.

Triggles · 04/11/2012 08:26

dededum - that's all good, then. It was a horrific shock to us, as we expected the UK company could fix it. I'm American, so we have travelled back to the states numerous times, but not as frequently now, as it's just getting too expensive.

Triggles · 04/11/2012 08:33

always - we haven't got a huge list for our children (and grandchildren) either.

They've ALL got far too many toys as it is! They always get pyjamas and a book from us, some sweets, and then a small toy for the grandchildren (both 6) as well, and a larger toy for our younger children (3 and 6). Our adult children(27,29) and their OHs sometimes get money, sometimes presents, depending on what they specifically ask for.

Stocking stuffers are usually (depending on age) socks, underwear, playing cards, chapstick, toy cars, some sweets and fruit.

Afrodizzywonders · 04/11/2012 10:22

DS (2.3) I've been snapping things up since August, making sure I get them at least 50% off mostly more, so my budget has stretched really far! I also sold tonnes of old toys etc on eBay that he wasn't playing with to make room and keep the Christmas coffers healthy. Plus he only has presents from us really, nobody gives him any gifts at Christmas, family far away and skint, fair enough.

ELC wooden fire & Rescue station(£36 not £160 or whatever it was)
Gant marble run with extra marbles
ELC wooden garage (i sold his toot toot one that was annoying beyond belief and he didn't play with much knowing he likes this garage). This will be from his Grandad.
Gruffalo costume
Bosch drill, chainsaw & circular saw (got all 3 for price of 1).
Thomas the tank book set from book people.

Then his stocking has some gold chocolate coins, a finger puppet bat ( he's obsessed by bats), soaps, magic face cloth, toothbrush, bubbles, satsumas, nuts, a timmytime wallet with fake money, a toddler watch (£16 to £3).

It's all wrapped as well eeeeeek.

Kelly281 · 04/11/2012 10:39

DD (15mo at Xmas) has so far got:

Supermarket & trolley
Happyland village, funfair, bluebell boot & jubilee sets
ELC teddy bear dr set
Little Tikes Cozy Coupe cab
ELC puzzle

I'd like to get her the Happyland pirate ship & school, some mega bloks, an aqua draw (may ask GPs for this), little people Rampway, fisher price mirror, an elmo, some books & bits for her dollies.

Wigeon · 04/11/2012 17:04

I am Shock Shock about what people consider "not much" or "a really short list"!

We buy our DDs: ONE present each. DD1 will have a stocking, which will contain little things like a wooden necklace (£2), chocolate coins (£1), a silly wind-up toy, a pocket kite - that kind of thing.

DD2 is only 17 months and will probably have a stocking containing things like some raisins, and chocolate coins, and a little ball.

They also get one present from each of: my mum, my dad (they are divorced), my inlaws, and about 4 or 5 other relatives. That always seems like a massive haul of presents!

We aren't poor by any means, but we don't have a huge amount of disposable income, and in any case I have no idea where we would put this vast amount of stuff!

To answer the OP: not sure yet!

Does anyone else only get one present per DC?

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 04/11/2012 17:12

Our DD is 5, her main pressie will be a "proper" digital camera from Santa. We have bought her a furby, a pink ukulele (and a book to learn to play it), playmobile campervan, barbie clapping dog thing she saw on the telly (!), couple of dvds, barbie popstar to princess doll, Guess Who (moshi monsters version), a DS game, some dot to dot books, some air drying clay and finally some clothes. Phew. Doesn't look a lot hidden in the wardrobe but looks mad when I write it down!!!

VintageRainBoots · 04/11/2012 17:23

We've bought our kid nothing so far. In fact, we rarely buy much for holidays or birthdays, usually just a couple items. Our parents tend to go overboard with gifts, though, and our daughter gets things she wants throughout the year, so it's not like she's suffering.

flinkystanny · 04/11/2012 17:30

DD (6) is getting a VTech Kiddizoom camera, a yahtzee game and Uno.
DS (3) is getting a roaring dinosaur and a starter Hot Wheels set.
I cannot believe the amount of stuff other peoples kids get. Mine get a biggish (£20 ish) present from 1 set of G'parents, other set live overseas from a country that don't really do gift giving at xmas so they don't send anything.
The house is still overrun by toys! I don;t get anything for them other than colouring pens and pencils/ colouring bits/ craft stuff the rest of the year.

OTS · 04/11/2012 18:05

DS (18mo) has the Happyland funfair
Peppa pig rocket
Harold toy from thomas and friends
A few dvds
Books
Crayons
A dressing gown
Outfit
Disney store 2012 teddy (not got this yet but decided to get one every year)

Plus lots of little bits for his stocking Grin

Groovee · 04/11/2012 18:07

Northernlurker · 04/11/2012 18:12

Still to get go glow spiderman
and stocking fillers, probably lego minifigures x2 and a power rangers dvd

CheddarOnToast · 04/11/2012 19:09

Wow, other people are organised!

I have ordered DC's presents - Playmobil swimming pool for DD1(4) and Playmobil 123 woodland animals set for DD2(1). They will only get one "toy" present from us, but they'll also get something from each other, which I haven't got yet (planning that DD2 will buy DD1 some sort of pink sparkly tat that I would highly disapprove of, DD1 will choose something herself for her sister - so could be anything Grin), plus new clothes and PJ's, which I also haven't got yet.

I haven't started on stockings properly yet either, I have lots of ideas but keep changing my mind all the time, although broad template is new underwear, something crafty, book, audio book or DVD, some sort of sweet treat, satsuma (banana for DD2),and a jigsaw or game (I saw a puzzle that would have been great for DD2, with pictures of different fruits that you lifted out, and then underneath was a picture of the inside of the fruit, but I've lost the bit of paper where I noted the brand name down and now can't find it. Sad)

xMinerva · 04/11/2012 19:25

So far

Ds1: 3 1/2 years. A miniature twin bell alarm clock, something similar to this for his stocking as he's really into learning the time at the moment.

Ds2: 2years. 2 hot wheels cars from ds1 that ds1 saw and asked if we could get for his brother from him.

That's it. Shopping starts in approx 2 weeks. They won't be getting much this year. Probably a few shared outdoor garden/pool toys as we've just moved half way across the world (and now skint) and it'll be summer here.

ballroomblitz · 05/11/2012 01:20

Ds (5) is getting a 3ds as his main pressie. (I stupidly said last year before Christmas when he asked for one, Santa would bring it next year as he was too young)
Shooting web spiderman
Spiderman mug/chocolate set
Magic set
Two games for nintendo
Pjs
Doggy do game as he thinks it's hilarious
Set of 12 Dr Seuss books from the book people

Have some stocking fillers like moshi monsters shower gel set, tube of haribo sweets, playmobile figure, glow in the dark stickers. Might get a couple of dvds from Home Bargains

Dd (2 months) lullabye fisher price thing, cloth doll, couple of lamaze toys, clothes

Will look like sod all wrapped up

MollyMurphy · 05/11/2012 02:33

So far we've bought our 2 year old a Mr Potato Head play dough set. He is going to love it! consequently we also bought the same set for our friends son's 4th birthday and it went over very well.

I also picked up a little tykes animal flashlight some time ago and am saving it for his Christmas stocking. It's a lion that roars when you push the button and it's mouth opens to reveal the light.

MollyMurphy · 05/11/2012 02:50

To speak to widgeon's comment - I really try to refrain from buying outside of b-days and Christmas...so for me I just love having the excuse opportunity to buy a number of things I know my LO will enjoy.

storminabuttercup · 05/11/2012 07:07

We've gone crazy because we keep forgetting what we've bought (well DP does then comes home with something else)

2 take n play Thomas sets
About 4 take n play trains
2 take n play track extension packs
A big trak (I'm under no illusion that this is for DP)
A taking buzz, woody and jessie (3 for two in tesco)
Thomas pjs and t shirts

In his stocking he has
Books
Toy story train
Socks
DVDs

Will spend maybe a fiver on stocking bits.

He has take n play sets from both my parents and grandparents, plus other stuff from my DSis, DPs mother and my friends.

He's two and I know will be overwhelmed by it all, I'm considering letting him open some Xmas day then more over the next few days.

I have no idea where I'm going to put it all!

storminabuttercup · 05/11/2012 07:08

*toy story torch

insanityscratching · 05/11/2012 07:22

I've bought dd so many books that she will need more shelves Blush dh will be Hmm but dd will be Grin because she is a bookworm like me.
