We are off to Cape Town for Xmas and will be spending most of it with my dad's girlfriend and her family. I have to buy for an 8 year old girl (watch maybe?) and boy who I think is about 11 and quite geeky, 3 year old boy and 1 year old twins - can anyone help with some suggestions! thanks

bargainous wooden train set for the twins?

shinybaubles · 02/11/2012 12:42

what about this watch pretty cool and in budget.

shinybaubles · 02/11/2012 12:46

Little People stuff is pretty good for 1 and 3 year olds, also train sets popular at any age, playdoh, this game is very popular with my almost 3 year old pirate game .

How about London t-shirts? I know it's a bit naff, but if you've got to get gifts into your luggage allowance, you'd be better off taking something lightweight. Alternatively, I'd go with a book of some sort for all of them for the same reason.

If you were driving up the M6, i'd say go for train sets etc but as you've got to fly to South Africa, go for practicality.

I am travelling to NZ for Xmas and for my SIL's partners kids who I've never met I have got them a Harrods teddy (bobby / beefeater / scot) each and a London sticker book appropriate to their age 8 / 6 / 4 yrs. Priority is size and weight for us, I'm sure there would be loads if cool stuff I could buy them but it needs to be easy to pack and not weigh too much :) Activity books I got from Amazon :)

Thanks ladies - I think definitley a watch for the girl and books for the twins, maybe a musical or puppet book, but not sure re 11 year old boy - I worry that Lego isn't cool or geeky enought. Was half thinking of something science based - what do you think?

For the twins M&S have really lovely sound board books, 25% off st the moment to so think they are around £4.50 each and lite people love them!!

Be careful you don't get something that causes the airport to be evacuated!

Are they doing those Science Museum gifts again this year?

Narked · 02/11/2012 16:43

For the 11 year old

DontmindifIdo · 02/11/2012 16:44

For the geeky 11 year old, what about something like this from the science museum - you can buy them in boots (there are other things that also might be suitable) and are in the 3 for 2 so you could get gifts for the little ones as well.
