Age for Guess Who / Connect Four?

DS will be 4.5yrs at Xmas, he's not a particularly patient child so could do with some gentle help with focus etc I have electronic Guess Who and regular Connect Four put away from tesco sales, are these games appropriate for that age or should I wait til he is older?

Seems ok I think, though, my dd found guess who quite challenging at 5 she found the concept of the two players having same board but individual ones very difficult to grasp in terms of understanding what the other person could see being the same, hard to explain but I think it was a theory of mind thing, in that she was a little young to have formed any understanding of predictability.

I think simple turn taking where it's easier to predict the outcome would be better at that age. Shopping game, pairs, dominos etc are better for that age. Junior scramble is good.

DD can play guess who pretty well and can play connect 4 knowing she needs to get 4 in a row and stop me getting 4 in a row but cant think tactically of my next move when its her turn or anything like that and she is 3 and a half. She loves a game called ladybirds if you can see anything like that and good old fashioned snakes and ladders!

At 5, mine really enjoyed both, but had no thought of strategies. At 6 they were starting to think moves through.

I gave both to my DS when he was 5. He loves Guess Who. He was quite good at thinking through strategies with connect 4 so we tried chess, which he also loved. He also enjoys playing UNO.

DS1 is nearly 5 and I was going to get him Connect 4. I've concluded that he isn't ready. He definitely isn't ready for Guess Who. I think I was about 6 when I had each game as a child.

Games wise, I have bought DS1 Jolly Octopus. He already has a Ker Plunk type game and Pop Up Pirates. Have you got Shopping List by Orchard Toys? You can get more cards with fruit and veg, clothes etc to expand the game. Monster Bingo, also by Orchard Toys, looks good too.
