Elf on the Shelf newbie

I love the idea of the elf on the shelf, but due to skintness can't afford the official book and elf, so I have had my mum knit me one.

Could anyone tell me what sorts of things are in the book, or how to start things off?

Thanks

Watching with interest.

A knitted elf sounds adorable!!

He is, managed to keep him hidden from my 8 yr old.
I know he will be 'going along' with it, but I have DD who will be 11 months when we start so thought I might be a good Family Tradition to start. Just need to know how to kick it off.

Have a flick through for the other Elf threads. I have a rag doll type elf toy and I never knew the elf wasn't to be touched with so ours has tea parties with the other toys.
He could arrive with a letter introducing himself.

why must the elf not be touched?

greythorne

he loses his 'magic' Wink

Had a flick through the other threads and some other websites, just trying to gather as much as I can.

I think we're going to go with a letter from Santa introducing our elf.

I ignore the no touching. DD likes to cuddle him. This is ok because he only uses his magic at night.
