12 year old niece baking gift - ideas please.

hi, my niece is just getting into cookery and baking and i thought i could get a few bits together as a 'hamper' gift just wondering if others have seen any nice things about that they may like to share (ideas i can steal) books utensil etc.

Lots and lots of edible glitter.

Also cupcake cases and packets of made up fondant icing.

Seasonal sprinkles- I've seen nice snowflakes to orange and black Halloween sprinkles.
Ikea, Lidl, Aldi... do gingerbread house kits.

Sprinkles, cases, them little sets with the cases and toothpick flag designs, an apron, big bowl, icing bag, cookie cutters, edible glitter...

Silicone spatula to scrape every last bit of mixture out of the bowl, wooden spoon, a nice airtight container to store the finished articles in. If this is for Christmas, you can get some foil cake or muffin cases with Christmas designs on.

If she's into cooking as well as just baking, get her a kitchen knife, like this, which is obviously hers, and a cookery book aimed at beginners, like this or this.

Next always do a variety of baking gifts around christmas time. Not sure if it's the kind of thing you're looking for but they always look beautiful!

Oh, have a look in TK Maxx as well as they have a good range of baking stuff - small tray / tins, bowls etc in bright colours.

Home Bargains have cute cupcake cases for 60p and coloured sugar crystals for sprinkling for 80p, I've teamed them with a childs apron festooned with cupckes (dotcomgiftshop) for a 6yr olds gift.

Rolling pin, wooden spoon, silicon spatula, measuring spoons. Maybe a loaf or shaped tin, or tin for muffins or little tart shapes. Good knife, whisk, set of cups (measuring), apron, (maybe chef;s hat to match?), oven gloves,

What about cake tin liners - either for loaf or round tins? Lakeland certainly do those. And I agree about fancy cupcake/muffin cases, and different sprinkles etc. If she is happy to make her own icing, perhaps some good colourings (2-3 different colours), or maybe some nice flavourings (like real vanillla extract, orange water, rosewater, decent mint etc.) or good cocoa and chocolate drops.

Icing bag and nozzles?

I am just thinking of things I use a lot, and things that DD likes to have of her own (she's 6 but makes cookies and a chocolate cake by herself now (well, I still have to help measure, and I do the oven) and has quite a few of her own tools).

And it could all go into a large airtight box/fancy tin to hold the goodies, or a large mixing bowl, as the "basket" of a hamper...

I put together a baking box for my niece last year, everything that has been suggested, plus some handwritten recipes and pre-weighed bags of flour/sugar. she loved it.

I just had a small splurge in Lakeland and they've really upped their game when it comes to baking stuff. I got some cute snowflake cutters for making icing cut-outs, and noticed they had lots of sprinkles, sweet little cake boxes, cake toppers etc etc.

However I'd also echo FireOverBabylon and Elizabeth22 and highly recommend a trip to your nearest TKMaxx first, which always seems to be very well-stocked with cupcake-type equipment. And is cheaper

How about a giant cupcake mould. You can get silicone ones in pound stretcher for £5 (& home bargains & B & M often have them). Home bargains also have cupcake stands for few £. Think they've got the stands that hold 13 cupcakes at the moment. They also do fairly cheap cake stands (2 tier ones) which are lovely. Again, HB has cupcake boxes in at the mo (Christmas & plain themes) so a box of them might mean you get to sample her wares .

Have a look at some sugar flair pastes for her to colour her own icing & maybe some icing tools (eBay or kitchen shops at outlet villages are good for these). Maybe a set of cutters like flowers, butterflies etc to put on cupcakes. Also embossing cupcakes with words or patterns is 'in' at the mo do some cheap embossers.

How about getting a Kilmer type jar & making a cupcake kit (good food website do a triple layer choc one).

Make her up a cookie or brownie mix, all nicely layered in a glass jar, where she can pour it out and just add the wet ingredients. Looks good and practical! Google baking mixes in a jar for recipes and how to layer it.
