To those who are familiar with the story of The Nutcracker...

I was thinking of getting a nutcraker storybook to read to my toddler DS this Christmas but just wondering if this was a tale that was more geared towards girls than boys because of the illustrations (from what I coud make out) of one book I was looking at online. Is this the case?

I think it's both - there are the soldiers, the mice, the actual nutcracker etc.

I only really know it as a ballet but the narrative is not exclusively girlie.
