How do I explain how santa will find the DCs at their grandparents house??

How about putting in their letters to him?

get the DC to leave a note/write a letter and draw him a map -that should keep them occupied for a bit too :)

Father Christmas knows where the good boys and girls are, even if they're visiting family. Families who travel around, gypsies army families etc, still get their presents.

If they're worried, they can maybe set up a "Santa please stop here" sign in the garden so he knows there are children in residence. Also, could you take your children to see Father christmas then they could tell him themselves that they'll be with grandma on Christmas Eve?

Tell them you wrote to him and told him where you would be at Christmas, we are going to be in Australia for Christmas so my dd knows she is only getting small presents at Christmas as Santa is coming again in January when her grand parents vist from Denmark and Santa willbring her big present then ass we have written to him to tell him we can't take big presents home from Australia. She doesn't seem to find that at all strange.

When DS developed a sudden anxiety about having a strange bearded man wandering about his bedroom at night, he asked the startled School Christmas Fair Father Christmas, if he wouldn't mind filling Ds's stocking downstairs and bypassing the bedrooms completely. The Big Man in Red agreed and all was well.

Would that work at all?

Don't forget put out reindeer food so that santa knows where to park the sled.

I just tell them he's magic and knows where they are all the time. The same goes for the tooth fairy :)

We tell ds that jack frost is the chief elf and frosts are a sign that he has been doing a recce to report back to FC. We go for a walk on xmas eve, while we are out the neighbours JF leaves pjs, reindeer food and a book along with a note. JF's recces enable FC to find all the children in the world.

I agree with mentioning it in the letters, but as well commenting on how Santa is magic and always knows where all the good boys and girls are. (He's managed to find DD every year so far, whether she's been at home, in PILs house or in a borrowed house near both of our parents...no problems).

Jars with candles or tealights in 2 lines down the garden to make an 'airstrip' for the sleigh.

Our DD was worried about this last year. We assured her Santa would find her as he is magic! My Dad then typed out a letter in magic style writing, addressed to himself from Santa - confirming that Santa had heard dd was coming to stay and thought he'd better make Dad aware he woudl be delivering presents there. He printed it out and dusted it with glitter and did an envelope to himself too - love him! He also had a collection of big old ornate keys, so got one, covered it in glitter, tied a red ribbon bow around it and put it in the letter (no chimney at theirs!). Of course when dd came to stay (the first Xmas with a grandchild at their flat) they made a massive fuss of her. So this year when I mentioned about going away she said - only if it's a family house like ours or my Dad's!

When I was a child we often spent Christmas away so I always wrote in my letter where I would be staying. And he always found me

I got DD to write Santa a note saying she would be at GPs for Christmas and could he deliver her presents there please.

While DH put her in the car on Xmas Eve I replaced her note with a "thank you for letting me know" note from Santa, which she saw when she got back home after Christmas!

And of course he delivered all her presents to GPs.

She was very excited about getting the little thank you note from him.

You get those videos from Santa to dc. Can't remember the name of the website but you fill in your own information and he tells it back. May be an idea?

Portable North Pole (PNP), they are AMAZING, the DCs love them, Santa talks to them, you upload photos of them and they are really personalised :), he then contacts them through the year, Elf on the Shelf also send emails out through the year (you can just register you dont need to buy an Elf on the Shelf.
