Stuff the home made crap!
We don't need it to have a fab christmas!

This year my beloved plastic tree will becoming out for year 8. It will be covered in tinsel and a variety of random decorations chosen by ds and I over the last 4 years.

I can't wait!

Oh dear,dear,dear.

You know that you, your DH and your DS will go out into the newly fallen snow to select and cut down the most perfect, green, fragrent tree.Your DH will carry it home over his shoulder.Then you will decorate it with homebaked gingerbread biscuits and tiny lit candles.
The fireplace will be draped with freshcut pine and balsam fir with neatly tied red velvet ribbons and twinkling tealights in jewel coloured glass holders.

On Christmas Eve ,after the midnight service, you'll tuck your DS up, drink hot chocolate and set out the tray your DS has left for Father Christmas.
The guinea-pigs will munch a carrot (left for Rudolph) while you check the turkey and vegetables are all ready for the next day, for you to get up at 6 am and start your Delia Smith Countdown....

Next morning you'll have a leisurley bath, without anyone knocking on the door and pull on a new cashmere jersey and naice slacks to start your preparations for the Perfect Christmas Day.

Can we have both? I like a real tree felled by the dodgy cheery farmers at the edge of the village. Then I love to smother it in tacky decorations.

But I am nicking 70s idea of getting the guinea pigs to tooth mark the carrot. Genius. That will now happen in our house every year.

Yes real trees are allowed....but only if they have tacky decorations!

There's no such thing as too much tinsel and too many fairy lights. In fact, once I put up the fairy lights round the house this year (with the exception of the ones on the tree) they will be staying there. Permanently.

I have 4 Christmas music boxes that you wind up. I have not one, not two, but three Xmas trees, and I am tempted to put them all up. Ha.

I have two trees. Ds has a little.one in his room. Big one in the living room. Still no idea where the pigs are going to go whilst its up though.
Maybe I should just cover the cages in tinsle.and integrate them into the tree.

I have two trees, one in front room and one in dining room...no tinsel though...never!

I'm sure you'll think of somewhere. Trees are very important, my DS has one, and there will be one in the lounge and another in the diner. I have enough decs to sink a battleship, but every year I seem to add a few more

I have 2 trees, the big one in the living room full of as much stuff as we can get on it, and a small fibre optic one for the bottom of the stairs, and a big reindeer and sleigh made from rope light for the front garden and a Santa that sings and a Santa that farts (for the DH) and we always put lights in the window too :):) so excited!!!!!!!

OOh, can I join in? I lover everything about Christmas, all the tack except I can't stand tinsel or coloured christmas lights. Sorry!

No tinsel and no homemade tat on the Christmas tree.

As much tinsel and tat all over the rest of the house as you like. We have so many different fairy lights DH has a bulb spread sheet!

But the tree has nice glass baubles collected over the years, soft coloured lights and warm coloured bead strings.

Once the DCs have gone to bed. I love to turn all the lights off except the tree and a flickering candle bring and just sit in the soft glow. Mulled wine and DH if he's being snuggly, not lustful and not chattery are welcome.

Oh and I want an LED door mat, we have a very dark north facing door, with a led wreath. A door mat would be great.

I have a Christmas crib that has a button you press and an Elvis-alike-soundtrack starts with 'Hark the herald angels sing...'. We smashed the angel years ago tragically but we have the Bebby Jeeesus and all the rest of the gang, and always decorate it with shit tinsel and flashing fairy lights.

To me, it really is what Christmas is all about.

Although, i have to confess, I hate coloured lights!
I have off white on the tree and blue...erm....on the other tree.
I managed to get a extra strand round the window too!

Just realised I have 3 trees
My new one from last year ( fed up paying £70 for a tree, splashed out on a new faux tree)
My little potted fir tree in the garden
My fibre-optic that we put on a timer to alert the DC that Father Christmas 'has been'. (DC are 10 and nearly 13 yo. Not easily conned now)

I put the tiny coloured light in the kitchen
white lights everywhere else.

Last year I saw golden/amber lights that seem softer. Might be my Christmas purchase for this year.

I would actually quite like to be all Alssoppy and homemade at Christmas but the truth is real life, work, kids and running around at 100 miles an hour every day leaves very little time for gathering holly and ivy of a morn.

Instead I have a 6ft inflatable Santa that stands proudly waving in the garden from Dec 1st. His arrival officially declares Christmas is on its way (and all you have to do is plug him in - job done)

Can I join? I do love cooking, but have a plastic tree, which by the time it's decorated it looks like the kids have just stood back and hurled tinsel at it! I drape tinsel round every available plant, banister, picture etc. No real colour scheme! Decorations are lovingly bought from poundland.
So please forgive me my homemade cake etc. and let me get excited about all the lovely tinsel ready to come out of the loft!

I've just remembered- when DS was little (about 2yo) we had one of those noise reactive Father Christmas toys. If you clap or shout, it would jiggle and sing "Another Rock and Rolling Christmas" (like Shakin Stevens)
